Obituary

In Loving Memory of Sergeant First Class (SFC) Bobby McDowell Rogers
SFC Bobby M. Rogers, 70, died unexpectedly, otherwise in good health, at his Round Rock, Texas home on December 31, 2017.
Bobby M. Rogers to many was also known as Bob, Butch, Coach, Bobby, Sarge, or Mr. Rogers. No matter what name you know him as, he influenced our lives in many ways. Bobby was known and loved for many of his stories.
Bob was born in Claremore, Oklahoma on February 1, 1947. He graduated from Claremore High School in 1965. He then graduated in 1967 as the last graduating class of the Oklahoma Military Academy which is now known as Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma. Bobby enlisted in the United States Army on January 13, 1969; coincidently, the same day he married Joyce Ann Stude. He completed basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana to move on to AIT at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He served his country faithfully while on multiple tours of duty in Germany, Korea, North Carolina, Texas, and Alabama.
During his Army career, he earned several awards and commendations. Some of which include: National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (4); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Army Commendation Medal (4th award); Army Good Conduct Medal (7th award); NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3); Meritorious Service Medal. In 1992, Bobby retired as a Sergeant First Class at Fort McClellan, Alabama and finally settled down with his family in Anniston, Alabama. This is where he started his long teaching and coaching career with Anniston City Schools making a difference in so many students' lives. Once retiring from teaching in Alabama in 2008, he moved to join his family in Round Rock, Texas. However, Bob was not done with teaching. He started to substitute at nearby schools which later landed him a position at Hutto Middle School. Bob continued his contribution to veterans as Sergeant at Arms at the American Legion in Hutto, Texas. Among all of his work and family time, Bobby found time to teach children's church and was an usher for many years at Silver Chapel in Ft. McClellan, AL. He also found time to work in an orphanage in Korea and worked for many years in the Boys and Girls club of Anniston, AL.
His love for sports began when he played baseball, football, basketball, volleyball and softball. Once his body would not let him play, he moved on to refereeing baseball, softball and volleyball. He was a proud member of the National Association Sports Officials (NASO). His dedication led him to be inducted into the Alabama Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame in 2008 and is also honored to be part of the National Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alonzo and Gertrude Rogers, his sister Delores, his brothers Alonzo Jr., and Dwight, his sister Betty Bailey and his daughter Melanie Marie. He is survived by his wife Joyce Rogers, son Donovan Rogers, daughter Natasha Jones; grandchildren Darion, Elisa, Elijah, Mark and Daniel; Sister Netta Rogers; brothers Tommy Rogers, Charles Rogers and Roger Rogers.

We will always carry your memory in our hearts. Boomer Sooner!
