Obituary

Carl Lewis Cook was born on May 11th, 1931 in Houston, Texas and died in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 26th, 2021.

Carl was raised by his mother, Grace, and father, Henry, in Houston, Texas. When Carl was a young child his father worked on the Mississippi River and they often moved from one town to another. He reminisced fondly about those times.

Carl graduated Milby High School, attended and graduated from Rice University. After graduation he met Bulah Mae Cook (the love of his life) at Central Park Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. They attended the same church, dated and were married on June 4th, 1954.

In 1955 their first son Daniel Carl Cook was born. Carl was on active duty in post-world war Germany at the time and could not get home fast enough to see his new son! A few years later another son, Timothy Kevin Cook, joined the family. Carl loved having boys; he participated in scouting activities, often acting as the scout leader. There were many campouts during the years and Carl enjoyed all of them. He ensured that both boys received their Eagle Scouts at an early age. He also supported both boys in their schooling, church and sporting activities.

Carl and Bee relocated from Houston to Tulsa with the Standard Oil Company in 1963. They became members of Will Rogers United Methodist Church. Carl loved his church and built their social life around all of their friends from the Faithbuilders Sunday School class. He was very active in the Will Rogers choir, counting Hugo Garza-Ortiz as one of his best friends for many years. Carl and Hugo even dressed up as Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings for a lip sync contest, doing a very good interpretation, even with Hugo's accent!

Carl and Bee also enjoyed annual trips to Branson with their friends from the Faithbuilders class. Carl was adventurous and enjoyed risk taking activities like parachuting, zip-lining. He truly wanted to experience all that life had to offer, praising his Lord along the way!
Carl worked at Standard Oil, which eventually became Amoco Oil and Gas, for over 30 years. He worked hard and was able to retire at the early age of 55. His grandchildren never knew him as a working man! With early retirement, Carl filled his time with family, church and service to others. His volunteer work included Bible school, serving on numerous church boards, and the Lions Club, fitting young students with glasses. Other volunteer work included mentoring at-risk students (he did this well into his 70's), and mission work, making numerous trips to Mexico and China.

In 1984, Carl had his first grandchild, Timothy Joshua Cook, followed closely after with granddaughter, Lindsey Ann Cook in 1985. Carl spent the years following his retirement doting on both of his grandchildren. He attended many soccer and baseball games and cheered the grandkids on along the way. He planned yearly family vacations to the beach, skiing and NYC. Always having a well planned agenda that included time for "having fun." He and Bee hosted weekend sleepovers nearly every weekend and spoiled the grandchildren and later the great-grandchildren!

Carl was a great-grandfather to five! Each of them brought such joy to him and he wanted to spend time with them as often as he could. Again, he and Bee continued to attend sporting events, birthday party's and family gatherings to continue to build a close relationship that spanned 3 generations.

Carl was preceded in death by his mother and father Grace and Henry Cook, sister, Betty Hart and most recently, his loving wife, Bee Cook.

He is survived by his sons, Dan Cook of Houston, Texas. Tim Cook and his wife, Gina, of Tulsa, Ok. His grandson Joshua Cook, wife Amy, and granddaughter, Lindsey DeSirey and husband Michael. Carl has five great-grandchildren, Cade and Piper Rainwater, Ethan and Olivia Cook, and Grey DeSirey.

He will be greatly missed and will be forever in our hearts.
