Carl James Stoops, 95, of Tulsa, OK, left this world on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. He was born on Friday, July 30, 1926, in Tulsa, OK, to James Vincent Stoops and Edna B. (Moon) Stoops. Carl was an Eagle Scout, which is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America, and he graduated from Will Rogers High School, in 1945. He was proud to have served in the United States Air Force in World War II.
Carl retired with the Tulsa Police Department. He was an avid shooter, was a Firearms Instructor with the TPD, and a member of the F.O.P. Retired Officers. He also had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed flying single-engine planes.
Carl married the love of his life, Shirlee (Riggs) Stoops on March 8, 1956, at University United Methodist Church, and he and Shirlee have been faithful members. He was a talented musician and enjoyed playing with the Eastside Symphony, as well as playing his Tuba at various places with Shirlee, while she played her Accordion; including, once a week at Eastside Christian Church band, and at Octoberfest, every year. Carl took great pride in his son and daughter, 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them, and attending their events.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Gene Stoops; daughter, Danette Lynn (Stoops) Kuykendall; and brother, Elmer Stoops.
Carl is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Shirlee; daughter-in-law, Susan Stoops of Tulsa, OK; son-in-law, Mike Kuykendall and wife, Karen; grandsons, Mark Kuykendall and wife, Lindsey, Matthew Kuykendall and wife, Cassidy, and Jeffery Kuykendall and wife, Ayschia; great-grandchildren Ava Kuykendall, Emerson Kuykendall, Cora Kuykendall, Juniper Kuykendall, and Laurel Kuykendall; brother, Ray Stoops and wife, Betty, of Tulsa, OK; brother-in-law, Thomas Riggs and wife, Georgia; sister-in-law, Michael Norwood; and sister-in-law, Patricia Maxwell and husband, Tom; many nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.
