Carlton Robert "Bob" Jones, 86, was born in Enid on June 10th, 1936. He attended schools in Stillwater from 1st grade through OSU and then attended OU Law School before moving to Tulsa, where he finished his life. In between was a great life filled with family, honors, and travel. At Stillwater High School, he was on the debate team, President of the Honor Society, UNESCO State President and in National Honor Society. When attending OSU, he followed his father and became a Sigma Nu and served them as Treasurer. At OSU, he was President of Beta Alpha Psi (the accounting honorary society), in Blue Key Honor Society and in Who's Who. In law school he was Editor of the Law Review, in the Order of the Coif, and was President of Phi Alpha Phi.
In Tulsa he became a partner in the GableGotwals law firm and was a founding partner of Johnson and Jones, P.C. in 1994. For several decades, he co-authored a book on Oklahoma Estate Planning with W. Thomas Coffman. TulsaPeople listed him as one of Tulsa's Best Lawyers in their annual articles from its inception until his retirement (20+ years). While most lawyers were only listed as outstanding in one category of practice, Bob was always listed in three separate categories.
He would say his most significant achievement in life was his family. He met Marthanelle Chastain on a blind date during Law School, married her and never left her side for 61 yrs. Together they had a fabulous family with three children (Lydia, Valerie, and Michael), 8 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. All of whom, gave him great pleasure.
They traveled extensively in the USA and abroad, sometimes with children, sometimes with grandchildren, but always together and making wonderful memories. In the 70s, Bob found the joy of running. He ran 5Ks & marathons all over the US and even ran while in Europe. Boston Avenue United Methodist Church and its Roundtable Class were important parts of his life.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, C.H. "Bus" and Bernice W. Jones. He is survived by his wife (Marthanelle Jones), his brothers (WH "Bill" Jones and Richard D Jones), his children (Lydia [Kent] Taylor, Valerie Williams, Michael [Jennifer] Jones), his grandchildren (Trey [Marie] Lewis, Cody Lewis, Marissa [Chase] Knight, Trevor Williams, Tyler [Breanna] Williams, Brian Taylor, Jason Taylor, and Richard Wagner, eight great-grandchildren and three nieces.
