Obituary

Carol J. Martens was born on December 24, 1938, in Harvey, ND, to Edwin and Linda Schimke. She departed from her earthly home on July 7, 2025, in Tulsa, OK. Carol was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She touched countless lives with her love, laughter, warmth, and remarkable hospitality. She had a rare and beautiful gift of sharing the love of Jesus wherever she went.

Carol had a lifelong passion for music. She was an accomplished singer, pianist, organist, and saxophonist. She sang her first solo at just 2 1/2 years old in a Mother's Day program, performing "M-O-T-HE-R"-a song she continued to sing even in her final days, blessing the medical team with her enduring spirit. At the age of 7, her parents sent her on a train to travel 70 miles for organ lessons, and by 14, she played for her first wedding. Throughout her life, music remained an important part of her journey. Alongside her husband Jerry, she used her musical talents to serve others-playing for weddings, funerals, church services, and special events.

Carol also had the gift of hospitality. She was an excellent cook and baker, widely known for her delicious pies, cookies, and cakes. She had a deep love for family and made it her mission to remember every birthday and anniversary with a heartfelt card. Her ministry of encouragement extended beyond her family, reaching her beloved church community and beyond. Each week, she and Jerry greeted people with warm smiles and loving hugs. She wrote hundreds of cards to let others know they were seen, valued, and loved. Carol formed meaningful relationships everywhere she went and joyfully invited people to the church she cherished.

After graduating high school in 1956, Carol attended Tabor College in Hillsboro, KS. On July 22, 1957, she married Jerry Martens, and together they had three children. Their journey took them to Enid, OK; Harvey and Jamestown, ND; Fergus Falls, MN; and finally to Tulsa, OK, after they retired. Carol worked as an accountant and was known for her precision and meticulousness.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Jerry; her sister, Jeanette Martens; and many nieces and nephews. Carol's nurturing spirit extended beyond traditional roles-her niece Dorinda was like a daughter to her, and her great joy was found in the lives of Dorinda's children, Nick and Courtney, who lovingly called her Grandma.

She was preceded in death by their three infant children-Pamala Joy, Penny Jo, and Todd Jay; her parents, Edwin Schimke and Linda Schimke Nutz; and her sisters, Dorothy Faul and DyAnn Ingebretson.

Carol will be remembered for her infectious smile and joyful laughter, her deep-rooted faith in Jesus, and her unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness. Her life was a testimony to grace, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
