Obituary

Carol Marie Southard, age 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 11, 2015, surrounded by her loving family and many friends. Heaven now has the perfect hostess.

Carol was born on July 20, 1934 in Tulsa to her loving parents Jesse and Estelle (Sutherland) Pittman. She attended Lanier Elementary, Wilson Junior High, and Rogers High School, and often helped organize class reunions for each school. Carol met her soulmate, Daryl, at junior high church camp and they were married in 1954, beginning a life-long journey together. Carol followed Daryl to the University of Oklahoma while he finished his education, leaving her beloved OSU behind, though she remained a lifelong Cowboy fan. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority and remained active in the alumni group until recently. Together, they moved around the country with Daryl's career with Carol being his biggest supporter. Daryl often said that they would move to a new town and he would leave immediately for a business trip, and when he would return home Carol had everything unpacked, the kids enrolled in school, had identified churches for them to visit, joined a bridge club, and joined the school PTA. She was a fabulous cook, an avid tennis and bridge player, world traveler, bicyclist, and jogger, running in numerous Tulsa Runs and 17 Komen Tulsa Race for the Cure events.

Carol had a true servant's heart and never met a stranger. All were welcome in her home and immediately became part of her family. She loved God and loved serving her Church, including being Board Chairperson and an Elder. She was involved in so many ways serving the community, including serving as President of the Volunteer Council for the Tulsa Philharmonic, President of the Assistance League of Tulsa, President of Y-Me of NE Oklahoma, and President of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She also served on the board of Tulsa Boys Home, Chi Omega Mother's Club, Ronald McDonald House, the Center for Nonprofit Management, and the General Assembly of the Christian Church, as well as volunteering for Meals on Wheels, the Hospital Auxiliary, Tulsa Opera Guild and many others.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and husband Daryl. She was a loving wife, a wonderful mother to her children, and Mamaw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Jerry Pittman, her son Mark Southard and wife Patti, daughter Christy Southard, grandsons Ty Southard (Kellie), Brooks Southard, Ryan Dayton (Darcy), and Chad Dayton (Beth), great-grandchildren Haley Baker, Kinsley Southard, McKayla Southard, Caleb Baker, Ariana Southard, Tanner Dayton, Isabella Southard and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that any contributions be made to the Harvard Avenue Christian Church Memorial Fund or to Susan G. Komen Tulsa, as Carol was a proud 28 year breast cancer survivor.
