Obituary

Caroline Susanne Britt, wife of Dr. Clarence I. Britt, peacefully passed away in her sleep on November 19th, 2017, at the age of 91. Caroline was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, traveler, and inspiration to all who knew her. Her love of life and people were a reflection of her love of her Lord and the continual relationship she had with Him.
Caroline S. Britt was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania on a snowy night on January 28, 1926 to Anna Gulyassy Romance and Wasil Romance. She had two brothers, Paul and Wasil, and one sister Dorothy Ann. Her family moved to Cleveland, Ohio and after high school she attended Case Western Reserve, where she received a Bachelor degree in Economics and made a 4.0 GPA. She entered civil service during the Korean War and went to Japan where she was an assistant to a two star general and had many adventures during her service. She met the love of her life on the dance floor of an officer's club during that conflict which led to a whirlwind romance. After traveling around the world, she returned to marry Clarence I. Britt, MD at a small chapel in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. They returned to Columbus, Ohio where she received another Bachelor degree in Physiology at Ohio State University. While her husband was finishing his Cardiovascular Surgery residency, she had twin boys, Mark Paul Britt and Matthew Joseph Britt. When the boys were 6 weeks old, they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to start their lives together as a family and she has been a resident of Tulsa ever since. While the boys were growing up, she worked as a research librarian at Dowell Schlumberger where she eventually retired. During her tenure there she completed her Masters in Library Science at the University of Oklahoma. She enjoyed her career, raising her boys, and travelling. Her favorite trips were to Europe and Hawaii, and she continued to travel independently even at 91 years of age. During her travels to Hawaii she and her husband Clarence endowed the Britt Lectureship. This Lectureship is a yearly program in Honolulu that invites national speakers and provides continuing education opportunities for ministers in the Hawaii District of the California Pacific Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was a member of Boston Avenue Methodist Church where she and her husband supported a strong higher education program for future pastoral ministers of the church called the Britt Pastoral Minister Scholarship Fund.
Caroline is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Clarence I. Britt, her son Dr. Mark P. Britt, her brother Paul Romance, and sister Dorothy Ann Romance. Caroline is survived by her son and daughter in law Drs. Matthew and Carla Britt of Oklahoma City and their children Dr. Jolie Britt, Caitlin Britt, and Joshua Britt; her daughter in law Sheila Britt, wife of the late Dr. Mark Britt, and their son James Michael Britt of Tulsa; and her brother Wasil Romance. A celebration of her life will be held at Boston Avenue Methodist Church, 1301 S Boston Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma at 10 am on Monday, November 27th, 2017. The viewing will be Sunday, November 26th at Moore Funeral Home Southlawn from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations are sent to the Britt Pastoral Minister Scholarship Fund at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK.
