Cecil Ray Martin, Jr., age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026. Cecil was born on Monday, August 9, 1937 in Miami, Oklahoma to Hudy (Mitchell) Martin and Cecil Martin.
Cecil's father joined the Navy in 1940 during World War II and was sent to the Naval Air Station on Coronado Island. His family joined him later. After the war, they returned to Oklahoma.
As a young boy, Cecil would spend his summers with his paternal grandparents in Commerce, Oklahoma. It was with his grandfather that Cecil's love of woodworking began and continued throughout his life.
Cecil was active in the Boy Scouts and was chosen to attend the 1950 National Boy Scout Jamboree in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. He loved camping, playing softball and being with all of his friends.
Cecil graduated from Central High School in 1955 and joined the Navy. He remained in the Reserves for 32 years.
His working career began with Crane Carrier Company. He attended night classed at TU. He continued to work at Crane Carrier, rising through the ranks until he retired. He later entered the insurance business and became the Regional Casualty Claims Manager for Transamerica Insurance Company.
Cecil married Jackie Walts in 1958. They had three sons, Cecil Ray, Danny, and Mike.
Cecil loved coaching Cecil Ray's baseball team until they entered high school. He remained close to all of them until his death. He was also a referee for high school basketball games.
He had many life-long friends who got together frequently.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sondra Martin; sons, Cecil Ray and Mike (Niki); grandchildren, Eric, Brandon, Kendra, Carisa and Casey; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie; and son, Danny.
The family would like to thank his wonderful caregivers. He was grateful for all they did for him.
Memorial Services will be held at 10AM on Saturday, April 25th, 2026 at Moore Southlawn Funeral Home, 9350 E 51st St., Tulsa, OK
