Obituary

Celia Stanfield Rosenberger Horkey died at her home in Tulsa, OK, on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. She was 85.

Celia, born April 18, 1932, was the daughter of Cecil and Edmonia Stanfield. The family lived in Seminole, Oklahoma. Cecil Stanfield was a pharmacist, and together Cecil and Edmonia owned Stanfield Drug Company and Stanfield Gifts. Celia graduated from Seminole High School in 1950.

Celia attended the University of Oklahoma, was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, and while at OU met Charles Haskins Rosenberger.

Celia and Charlie were married in 1954. The first two years of their marriage were spent in Anchorage, Alaska, where Charlie was stationed with the Army. When Charlie completed military service, they moved to Tulsa.

Celia and Charlie were the parents of two sons: Charles Paul Rosenberger and Mark Edcil Rosenberger. Celia was devoted to her family, church, friends, and to community service.

Celia was a person of great faith. She taught Sunday School at Asbury Methodist Church; was a Chapel Volunteer at Hillcrest Hospital; loved Bible studies; and was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church.

She was always a faithful and loyal friend. She was blessed with many friends and thankful for their kind and loving attention during her illness.

Celia was involved and volunteered with a variety of community and state organizations. She was appointed to the Oklahoma Tourism Commission by Governor David Boren. Celia was a member of the commission for eight years serving one year as chairman. During her tenure she was responsible for the installation of weather signs along highways across the State of Oklahoma. She was a member of the Thomas Gilcrease Museum Board of Directors and a docent. She was successful in having signs installed long the Expressway directing visitors to Gilcrease Museum. Celia was a member of the Junior League of Tulsa and was a past secretary. She also served on the board of the Tulsa Zoo. She was a volunteer for the Children's Home and the Cerebral Palsy Association. Celia was a member of the Rotary Club of Tulsa, PEO, Sigma Chi Mothers' Club, Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae, Theta Birthday Luncheon Group, an investment club, a book club, an antique study club, and three bridge clubs. She was a real estate broker. Celia enjoyed cooking and entertaining; she loved oil painting, and was a talented artist.

Celia and W.R. "Dick" Horkey were married January 14, 2008. She said that she was blessed with nine plus years of a wonderful marriage.

Celia was a woman of integrity. She was courageous and persevering when faced with challenges. She lived life with grace and a positive outlook. Celia appreciated the beauty of nature the source of many of her paintings. Celia was a beautiful woman in body and in spirit. She was deeply committed to the Lord Jesus Christ and to the work of the church. She was a devoted wife and a loving and caring mother and grandmother. Celia will be sorely missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Charles Haskins Rosenberger, and a son, Charles Paul Rosenberger.

Celia is survived by her husband, W.R. (Dick) Horkey; son, Mark Rosenberger and wife, Normajean; grandson, Charles Paul Rosenberger, III; brother, Neil Stanfield and wife, Barbara of Oklahoma City; nephew, Dr. Charles Blake Stanfield and wife, Shelly of Oklahoma City; niece, Alyson Stanfield and husband, Rob Harrington of Golden, CO; step children, Elaine Gail Horkey, Edward Horkey and wife, Linda; Ellen Horkey Balcer and husband Brent; several step-grandchildren; and also extended family and friends.
