Obituary

Charlene Johnson Price passed peacefully from this life into everlasting life with her Savior on November 5, 2023. Her 89 years on this earth were filled with love and laughter and truly centered on her faith, her family, and her friends.

She was born Charlene Marie Johnson on Jan. 14, 1934, in Chisholm, Minn. She is preceded in death by her parents, Julia Morris and Leonard Johnson.

Charlene grew up in Dallas, Texas, an only child of a single mother. She attended Ursuline Academy, an all-girls Catholic school (and at the time, a boarding school), which was the source of many treasured memories and helped lay the foundation for her strong faith in God. She trusted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Vickery Baptist Church. In 1951, she graduated from Hillcrest High School, where she was a cheerleader and active in numerous organizations.

Charlene started college at what is now Texas Woman's University in Denton. In 1952 she transferred to Baylor University in Waco, a step which she often noted providentially set the course for the rest of her life. At Baylor, she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education, discovering her love for teaching children; she served as president of her sorority (now known as Tri Delta), forming cherished, lifelong friendships; and she met her future husband and lifelong partner, Lewis Price, whom she married on May 28, 1955.

After being a military wife for four years, Charlene taught public school in Dallas until 1964, when the family moved to Tulsa. She became involved in children's ministry at First Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for decades, culminating in a position on the church staff as director of its preschool program.

However, Charlene found the most fulfillment in her role as homemaker and mother to four daughters, all of whom gratefully acknowledge her as incredibly patient, giving, and forgiving. She created a warm and accepting environment for her family and lovingly supported each of her children in their endeavors.

Because of her love for her Lord Jesus and for people, especially children, Charlene was a gifted teacher and extraordinary mother. Her childhood shaped her desire for a large, loving family, and she devoted her life to nurturing her husband and children. She shared her beautiful smile and kind spirit with everyone she met, and she leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love that will continue for generations.

Charlene is survived by her husband of 68 years Lewis Price; her daughters Julie Davidson and husband Steve, Jill Pinkerton, Polly Richman and husband Ken Quesenberry, and Penny Graham; grandchildren Sam Davidson and wife Alexis, Price Pinkerton, Libby Pinkerton, and Wesley Graham; great grandsons Theodore Davidson and Malachi Davidson; sister-in-law Joan Coleman; as well as one niece and two nephews and their families.

The family would like to express gratitude to the caregivers at Suncrest Hospice and Clarehouse for their compassion and kindness.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 10 a.m. in the Cincinnati Room at First Baptist Church Tulsa, 420 S. Detroit Ave.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Children's Ministry of First Baptist Church Tulsa.
