Charles J. O'Rear was born in Warren, Arkansas on May 10, 1924 and died in
Tulsa, Oklahoma on Thursday, December 12, 2013. He was the son of Charlie and
Lottie, and was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Mathey of Dallas, Texas. He was raised in a home rich in Christian values. Charles proudly served in World War II and in the Korean conflict as a United State's Air Force Navigator on a B29.
In the time between the two wars, Charles attended Georgia Tech. and received his degree in civil engineering. While in Atlanta, he met Carol Buie, and they were married June 14, 1949. Charles began his career with Arkansas Natural Gas Company in Shreveport, Louisiana, and from there, Charles and Carol moved with career changes to various positions in Oklahoma, New York, and then returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma. He retired in 1983 as Vice President of Real Estate and Development for Cities Service Company.
Upon retirement, Charles enjoyed his favorite hobbies of woodworking, making beautiful pieces of furniture, golfing at Cedar Ridge Country Club, and traveling abroad with his wife and their friends. Charles was an active member of First Baptist Church of Tulsa, where he was a Deacon, sang in the choir, and served on various other committees. Throughout his life, he demonstrated a deep faith in God, which was shown in the way that he lived every day.
Charles is survived by a family who loved him greatly: His wife, Carol; his son
Charles, Jr. and his wife, Carol of Ponca City, Oklahoma; his daughter Sandra Gail and her husband, Kemper of Centennial, Colorado; and his son Mark, and his wife Alison of Edmond, Oklahoma; and seven grandchildren; Haley, Michael, Tripp, Kyle, Nate, Carly, and Audrey.
