We are sad to announce the death of Charles B "Charley" McGee of Tulsa, who left us on Dec 9th 2022. At 90 years old, he enjoyed a long and full life right up until his passing.
Charley was born at home on a very cold February night in Parsons, Kansas, with just a coal stove for heat. Which might explain why he loved to wear Hawaiian shirts so much. The only son of Loretta and "Mac" McGee, Charley grew up in Parsons, Kansas or as he used to put it "God's country".
He started piano as a child and played for the rest of his life, and although his acceptance into Julliard was practically guaranteed, he passed on the opportunity because he didn't want to play the song his teacher had chosen. He graduated from Parsons High School in 1949, and spent two more years attending Parsons Jr College. Charley loved to share stories about he and his best friend WJ "dub" and their trips into Pittsburg for a night out on the town. But those stories will have to remain for another day.
In 1963 Charley married the love of his life, Barbara. They wed in Bartlesville and moved to Tulsa later that year. Charley transferred to Tulsa with Cities Service Oil Company where he worked in the Pipeline division. Later he became a Relocation Specialist with Occidental Petroleum Co retiring in 1990.
Charley became a very talented musician. A classically trained pianist with an ability to play most anything by ear. He loved playing piano and organ, playing nightclubs during the 70's and 80's with his wife Barbara singing.
Charley enjoyed spending time with his family. As a father, he enjoyed watching his son Sean get married, have kids, and create a home. As a grandpa, that is, "Grandpa Charwee", he enjoyed watching his grandkids, Audrey and Jacob, in all of their sports, art, music, academic achievements and just plain fun. He even went so far as to have two knee replacements just to make sure that he didn't miss anything.
Charley was a quiet and gentle soul. He had a subtle sense of humor and a big sense of caring. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word, a great conversationalist and well spoken. He will be missed by all who loved him. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Barbara, son Sean and his wife Mary, and their two children, Audrey and Jacob.
