WOOD, Charlotte Frichot, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014 in Tulsa, OK.
Born 10 July 1921 to Rebecca Crans and Bert Charles Frichot in Deep Rock, Oklahoma, where her father was Chief Chemist for the oil company. They moved into Cushing after her elementary schooling, and she graduated from Cushing High School in 1939. She was Band Queen and played a mean game of golf in her leisure time. She attended Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri, and then transferred to the University of Kansas, where she earned her degree in science in 1943. Her portrait was one of a handful of KU beauties selected by Peruvian artist Vargas to be featured in the KU yearbook. When World War II broke out, Charlotte set aside her dreams of medical school for marriage and family. Upon graduation, she married Blaine Imel, a Cushing boy, and they had three daughters: Barbara, Deborah, and Cynthia. Charlotte went back to school to earn her Master's Degree in Education at the University of Tulsa, and then taught biology at Edison High School until her retirement. Anyone want to take a trip? She was always up for that!
As a young woman, she toured the national parks of the American West, and later took many trips with her daughters – Arizona, Minnesota, Kansas City, Dallas, Mexico…and her favorite trip was to France when Deborah and Barbara were there. She was loved by her students, respected by her peers, and feared by her children! She was only 5 feet tall (if that!) but she got her bluff in early! She was active in her church, participated in the Meals on Wheels program, and was a past regent of the John Robinson Chapter of the DAR. She truly enjoyed her volunteer work at the airport. Charlotte valued education and self-sufficiency, and took great pride in the careers that her daughters developed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Charles. Her family includes her daughters Barbara (Allen) Smallwood, Deborah (Alan) Nelson, and Cynthia (Jerry) Kreymer. Grandchildren are David (April) Collins, Becky (Clay) Woodrum, Robert (Dawn) Nelson, Andy (Leah Feazel) Nelson, and Monica Kreymer. Great-grandchildren are Chelsie Downie, Khloe Downie, and Emma Nelson. Her fun-loving spirit and wicked sense of humor will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, she requested donations to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Memorial service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 19, 2014 at John Knox Prebyterian Church Chapel.
