Obituary

Cherrie Lynn Simmonds Turner died suddenly while vacationing in Colorado with her husband and friends, on February 12, 2024.

Cherrie was born on December 25, 1963, to Marva "Joy" (Giles) Simmonds. Cherrie's father, Charles Wayne Simmonds, an Air Force pilot, was tragically killed just weeks before her birth. Joy later met and married Carl Mays, who raised Cherrie and her two brothers with Joy, in Broken Arrow, OK.

After graduating from Broken Arrow High School in 1982, Cherrie attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK, where she earned a degree in accounting. While attending OSU, Cherrie met James E. Turner, a student of Architecture. Jim and Cherrie were married on June 20, 1987 in Tulsa, OK.

Cherrie was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, great aunt, and loyal friend. A devoted and beloved member of her Bunco and Quilting groups, Cherrie also loved hosting dinner parties in their beautiful home that Jim designed and built for their family of four.

Cherrie was skilled at cooking, crafting, and quilting. Cherrie received great joy using her quilting skills to bring happiness to her loved ones with her many beautiful projects. She was well on her way to achieve her personal goal of creating a unique quilt for each of her loved ones.
Cherrie is survived by her husband of 36 years, James E. Turner; their children, Chloe Paige Turner and Jack William Turner; her mother, Joy Mays, her brother, Mike Simmonds and his wife Jill and their son, Zac Simmonds and wife Cat, their children Ford and Sloane; nephew Drew Simmonds; nephew Kramer Simmonds and wife, Kaitlin, their daughter Olivia; her brother, Russell Simmonds; her brother-in-law, Jeffrey B. Turner, and wife Patricia, and son, Ryan Collins; niece, Deidra Duncan and husband Olen, their children Gemma and Ethan; niece, Ali Bejarano and her husband Alan, their daughter Sabrina; sister-in-law, Julie Nelson her husband Curtis Brown; nephew Thomas Nelson; grand nieces, Kimmy Nelson and Kylie Nelson; and great nephew, Kaleb Nelson.

Cherrie was preceded in death by her Father, Charles Wayne Simmonds; her and Jim's two babies Nicholas Kale and Caroline Hope Turner; and stepfather, Carl Mays. Also preceded by her mother-in-law, Mary Ann Turner; two brothers-in-law, J. Christopher Turner and J. David Turner; sister-in-law, Pamela Turner; niece, Stephanie Nelson; and nephew, Jonathan P. Nelson.

Cherrie Turner's Celebration of Life will be held:
Monday, February 26 at 2:00pm
First Presbyterian Church
