Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of the beloved Chinwe Ebere Ajalla, MD announces her passing on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 30 years of age.

Chinwe was the fourth of five children and the youngest daughter in the Ajalla family. She was born in Albany, New York on April 28, 1990, a whole month earlier than her expected due date, foreshadowing a life of dynamo and determination. She was the tiniest of her parents' five children but without a doubt, she was the mightiest.

Chinwe attended Jenks Public Schools, where she participated in cheerleading and orchestra, playing both the piano and violin. She graduated from Jenks High School as a valedictorian for the Class of 2008. She attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating summa cum laude with a double major in Zoology/Biomedical Sciences and Psychology. She was then accepted into the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, achieving her dream of becoming a physician as a Doctorate of Medicine in 2018.

She completed a surgical internship year at Brookwood Baptist Health in Birmingham, Alabama. While she learned much during her surgical year, she ultimately chose to follow her heart and passion for women's health. While pursuing a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, she worked diligently at MedHelp Urgent Care and brought smiles to her patients' and co-workers' faces. She was a vocal advocate for improving black maternal health and sought to model her career around making labor and delivery safer for black mothers and their babies.

Despite her busy schedule, Chinwe found many ways to stay active. She was an avid runner who loved ballet, Zumba and barre, and she often spent several days a week at OrangeTheory. No matter her state of health, she kept running, rowing, jumping, and dancing her way through each day.

Chinwe loved living in Birmingham and became involved with her small group at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook, Alabama. She adored her church family and grew in her faith as a child of God during recent difficult times. Chinwe loved people and volunteered her time to causes that were dear to her heart. She loved God and adhered to God's commandments to love one another. She lived by the quote: "Everyday may not be good, but there is good in every day." No matter the circumstance or obstacle, she sought to walk in God's promises every day of her life.

Chinwe will forever be lovingly remembered by her friends and family. She is survived by her father Ejike Joe Ajalla, her mother Chinyere "Chi Chi" Ajalla, her siblings, Amaka, Uche, Chido, and TC, her sister-in-law Emily, her brother-in-law Sonny, and her precious rescue cats, Meryl and Katie.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 1 at 10 am at St. James United Methodist Church. 5050 E 111th St Tulsa, OK 74137.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 30 from 5-7 pm at Moore Funeral Home - Southlawn Chapel. 9350 E 51st St, Tulsa, OK 74145.
