Reflections of a Life
Christopher Fay Mason Jr. (Gramp) was born on April 17, 1948 in Bristow, OK to Christopher Sr. and Rosie Mae Mason. He attended Bristow High School and after which pursued his post-secondary education at Okmulgee Tech. Upon moving to the "big city" of Tulsa, he began his professional career with Manpower. Following several years of service with Manpower, he accepted a position with Nordam and eventually ended his corporate life with Airgas as a machine operator.
He met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Johnson, in 1974. They were married on September 7, 1985 and made their home in Tulsa. Although he never had any biological children, he formed a fatherly bond with his stepsons, Jessie and Anthony Mingilton, Sr.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, carpentry, cooking, and gardening. Christopher was very patient and caring. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He especially had a soft spot for children for whom he always had bubble gum and candy. Gramp believed you could fix anything with a roll of duct tape. He was the original MacGyver.
He was a member of Saint Monica Catholic Church where he participated in the Knights of Columbus and the Saint Monica's Men's Club.
On November 25th, 2014, Christopher Fay Mason was called home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher Sr. and Rosie Mason, his brothers Lawrence Gene Mason, David Mason and stepson, Jessie Mingilton.
He leaves to mourn: his wife Barbara Jean Mason; seven brothers: Johnny Sherman, Thomas Mason, Lee Allen Mason (Sarah), Michael Mason, Andrew Mason, Raymond Mason (Kay), Isaac Mason (Jamie),four sisters: Floraine Mason, Rose Marie Haley, Henryetta Barber (David), Pauline Gully (Anthony), stepson, Anthony Mingilton (Marsha); two grandchildren: Toni Payne (Jarvis) and Anthony Mingilton Jr, four great grandchildren: Jarvis Jr, Kennedy, Jalen, Justin, three uncles: Benny, John, and Ernest Northington, one aunt: Alice Borders and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
We will miss the verifiable truth that Gramp was mischievous, awesome, exciting, humorous, willing, generous, caring, compassionate, dependable, resourceful, understanding and loving.
