Obituary

Christopher B. Teter, M.D. passed away Monday, November 9, 2020 following a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Chris was born in Tulsa Oklahoma, April 4, 1951, to Billie and Floyd Teter. He attended Eisenhower Elementary and Thomas Edison Junior High and High School, where he lettered in baseball three years as third baseman. During his grade school years, he met his lifelong best friend Bob Ranck. The two would spend 6 decades following the New York Yankees together. At the age of 10, Chris realized his dream of being a Mickey Mantle was not likely, so he set his sights on becoming a doctor. He would later meet his idol and go on to write a book "The Day I met Mickey Mantle". It is a story of a by-gone era and how Mickey shaped his own life as a physician.
Chris journeyed to California and obtained a BS in Biology from Stanford University, where he was in Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He returned to Oklahoma to attend the University of Oklahoma Medical College. Chris was a member of the first Tulsa class of OU Medical College starting his junior year. He completed residency in Internal Medicine in Tulsa and was a private practice Internist from 1980-1991. Dr. Teter was proudly affiliated with Saint Francis Hospital his entire career. He was the first contracted physician with Warren Clinic in Tulsa. Chris spent a few years as the Warren Clinic physician at The Williams Company , where he met several of the patients he would continue to care for in later years. Dr. Teter was Chairman of the Warren Clinic Medical Practice Board 2004-2008 and Saint Francis Hospice Medical Director 2005-2009. In 2006, Dr. Teter won the Press Ganey Summit Award, a national award for excellence in patient satisfaction, representing the top six physician offices in the United States. Always the trail blazer, he became the first concierge physician in Oklahoma at MyMD the Personalized Care Program at Warren Clinic in 2004. Dr. Teter left Warren Clinic in 2014 to form MyMD of Tulsa, his own concierge physician practice and retired from the practice in 2018. MyMD of Tulsa was placed in the hands of George Pendell, M.D. who continues to serve the patients who were so adored by Dr. Teter.
Chris was a gentle, thoughtful, interesting man with a beautiful mind. He loved New York City and Carmel. Broadway was in his veins. He would stay outside after performances to meet the stars and get autographs. Chris loved Marilyn Monroe and Mickey Mantle. Despite being well traveled, Chris was happiest at home. On a hot summer day, he could be found toiling for hours mowing the perfect yard or taming a wild wisteria. His heart for animals was huge. Beloved pets included, Tweeds, Lilly, Gigi, ducks "George and Gracie" and others. Two things Chris would ask if he were here today-" Who is the most famous person you have ever met and when is opening day?". His was Mickey Mantle - It is certain they will be watching opening day of baseball season together in Heaven.
Chris was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Teter and brother, Mark Teter. He is survived by his mother Billie Teter of Tulsa and his former wife, business partner and close friend Robin Evans.
