Obituary

Clara Marie Holderman passed from this life on Monday, Oct 28, 2024, following a short illness that ended in Hospice care at Montereau Retirement Community in Tulsa, OK. She was 93.

Clara was born Dec 11th, 1930, on a farm outside the county seat of Lincoln, Kansas. Her parents were Harvey Kobbeman, a farmer and descendent of German immigrants, and Dorothy (nee Davis), a strong woman of the Great Plains. Clara had two younger siblings: John Kobbeman and Katherine Gammage.

Clara attended a one-room country school from grades 1 through 8. Following graduation from Lincoln High School, she attended Stormont-Vail School of Nursing in Topeka, KS where she graduated with a diploma in nursing.

Clara married John Holderman on December 23rd, 1954. Thereafter, she moved to Tulsa where they made their home for nearly 70 years of marriage. They had four children.

Before her children were born, Clara practiced nursing in various capacities: a surgical scrub nurse, a bedside nurse for the Veterans Administration Hospital, and a clinic nurse for Drs. Garrett, Sheppard and White in Tulsa. She took time with her first born to be a "stay at home" mom, returning to the workforce at the Tulsa Chapter of the American Red Cross when her youngest was two years of age. She remained there for the remainder of her career, serving in various leadership roles.

Giving back was important to her. She was a volunteer for Saint Francis Hospice where she delivered medications to nursing homes, conducted chart audits, and knit blankets for patients. Through Quota of Tulsa, she served hard of hearing and communication impaired individuals as well as disadvantaged women and children. She was an active member with the Tulsa Registered Nurse Community Volunteers helping to raise money for nursing scholarships.

Clara is survived by her husband John Holderman of Tulsa; their children: John Holderman II (Rosemary) of Tulsa; Joe Holderman (Cyndi) of Tulsa; Ruth Grosserode (Mark) of Tulsa; George Holderman (Deidra) of Owasso as well as 5 grandchildren - John L., Ashley, Drake, Chase, and Jenna - and 9 great grandchildren; her sister Katherine; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7th at 11:00 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, OK.
