Clarabelle Forbes McMahon Smith "Clara"
Born November 4, 1936, in Port Huron, Michigan, to Fredrick and Helen McMahon, Clara lived a life defined by compassion, curiosity, and connection.
Clara attended the University of Iowa where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. After returning to Tulsa, she married Fredrick J. Smith. Fred and Clara shared 48 years of happy marriage, building a life rooted in love, laughter, faith and family.
Clara was a humble soul, always willing to share her time, talents, and treasures with others. Known for her love of conversation, she never met a stranger! An avid reader and lifelong supporter of the arts, Clara especially cherished attending plays, operas, symphonies, and festivals-often in the company of her beloved grandchildren.
She began her career as an English teacher at Monroe Junior High, later answering her true calling as a psychiatric registered nurse. She spent many years caring for young patients at Children's Medical Center and later retired from St. Francis Laureate. Clara specialized in adolescent mental health and touched countless lives with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication-not only as a caregiver, but also as a mentor to both her patients and her own children.
Clara is survived by her daughter, Margaret Smith; her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Tracey Smith; and her cherished grandchildren, Sydney and Sophie Smith, and Wyatt Summers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Smith; her son, Scott Smith; and her grandson, Will Summers.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 30th at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Saints Valley at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore Funeral Home - Southlawn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clara's memory to Tulsa Lawyers for Children.
