A graduate of Forfar Academy, he apprenticed as a dental technician & served in the British Army, stationed in Jamaica. There he met the Mitchell family of Joplin, MO., who sponsored him to immigrate to the US in 1957. He eventually settled in Tulsa. He worked for Haas Dental Lab & Dr. Jim Perry. With an aptitude for sales, he went to work for Fred Jones Lincoln Mercury. In 1959, he met his future wife Bonnie Jean Hurst. They married on Oct. 27, 1960, in the Kerr Chapel of First Presbyterian Church by his beloved minister Dr. Bryant Kirkland. Their only child, a daughter, Robin Gail was born on Jan. 8, 1962. In 1974 his wife Bonnie & he founded a successful office equipment business, General Typewriter & Office Equipment, now known as Copier & Computer Systems of Oklahoma. His other interests were traveling, & having homes & boating on Grand Lake & raising award winning competition canaries. He thoroughly enjoyed the customer relations part of his career and was truly a natural born salesman in every sense of the word. He never lacked an opinion, was always ready to give advice. Even in his later years as his body was not keeping up with his mind & ambitions, he continued to live his life with a passion & zest that most would only aspire to have. By far his greatest joy & legacy are his two granddaughters, Allison Blair born in 1989 & Emily Anne born in 1991. To his family he is irreplaceable & will be forever missed. He was preceded in death by wife of 49 years, Bonnie Jean Hurst Rattray, his Father Claude Rattray & his Mother, Margaret Milne Rattray, as well as two sisters, May Short & Win Tyrie, all of Scotland & one brother, Ron Rattray of Broken Arrow, OK.
