Claudia Gail
Baumann
Nov 21, 1949 — May 28, 2026
Claudia Gail (Chapple) Baumann passed away on Thursday, the 28th of May, 2026, in the comfort of her Tulsa home surrounded by family and friends. She was 76 years of age.
Claudia was born in Moberly, Missouri, on November 21, 1949, daughter of the late Richard Robinson Chapple and Frances Marian (Myer) Chapple. She was raised in St. Charles, Missouri and graduated from Francis Howell High School in 1968. Claudia went on to obtain her Bachelor's degree in Home Economics Education from the School of Education at the University of Missouri.
Claudia loved the things she studied in college, such as textiles, interior design, flat pattern design, clothing construction, tailoring, and home management, among other things. Claudia had multiple careers, first as a high school home economics teacher. After teaching, she then began her favorite profession of all: being a full-time mother. While being a full-time mom, she managed to find the time to start her own interior design business in which she designed interior home spaces for her clients. She enjoyed the creative aspect of the work and seeing projects go from vision to finished product. After her kids had moved away for college, she then started a 20-year career as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines beginning in 2001.
In her free time, Claudia loved being outdoors, including visiting National Parks and spending summers in Montana. She also enjoyed traveling. Her work as a flight attendant allowed her to visit places around the U.S., from Lake Tahoe to Christmastime in New York City. She also enjoyed seeing Broadway shows in New York and visiting Key West, Washington D.C., and seeing the Blue Angels in Iowa with her dad and brother. She enjoyed international travel as well and took trips to Italy, London, Paris, and Indonesia with her friends.
Claudia enjoyed hosting and entertaining and was well known among family and friends as a fantastic cook and thrower of great parties, from Gourmet Club in the 1980's to her last Christmas party in 2025. She was independent, always loved a project, and particularly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved her dogs, going to the theater, watching the weather, and having a glass of sauvignon blanc at happy hour. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time at the lake, both at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and at Grand Lake o' the Cherokees in Oklahoma. She loved swimming, boating, and sitting on the dock at sunset.
Claudia was first diagnosed with breast cancer in the mid-1990s, again in 2001, and again in 2018. Ever a fighter, she beat cancer three times. Ultimately, her fourth diagnosis with cancer in 2022 would prove to be the last. Her bouts with cancer inspired her to live her life intentionally, which she did through her final days.
Preceding Claudia in death were her parents, Richard Chapple and Marian Chapple, and her sister, Lisa Layne (Chapple) Von Holt. She is survived by her children, Mark Chapple Baumann (Myrna) and Amy Christine (Baumann) Harris (Fabian); her grandchildren, Fabian Kenneth Harris, Isaac Will Harris, Alexander Salinas Baumann, and Vivian Janel Baumann; her siblings, Richard Penn Chapple (Carey), Marietta Lynn Chapple (Robert Thompson), and David Myer Chapple (Shelly); her ex-husband, David Kenneth Baumann; her brother-in-law, Dudley William Von Holt (Anne Cremer); her step-grandson Austin Drake Harris (Kenzy); and, her step-great-granddaughter, Emma Drae Harris; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
