Cora Ann (Lovett) Harlan born in Elmer Oklahoma Feb 27, 1927 to Clyde and Odessa Lovett. Everyone knew her as Tommie.
Mom was a child of the depression, the 3rd of six children. As with many families at that time her family farmed. They raised chickens, a hog, a cow or two, a garden and their cash crop came from cotton which she and her siblings picked alongside the contract pickers. A modest beginning in a family that had to work together to survive in S.W. Oklahoma.
After high school she married our dad and moved to California where they farmed oranges and olives. They moved around a lot between California and Oklahoma until they finally put down roots in Tulsa. It took our dad awhile to find his niche and begin his career. In Tulsa she nurtured her family sometimes to a fault. Always giving and never asking for anything in return. And, she did it with a smile on her face so you would never think she was taking away from her own needs. She loved and was loved. She was always there for each of us and sometimes our friends. Mom was a comfort, guidance, and dependable for each of us. She was our MOM and I thank GOD he gave us such a wonderful person to raise our family.
Mom spent half her married life as a housewife and homemaker until all of us kids were in school. At that time she took a job with Tulsa Public Schools as a cook in their cafeteria. In a short time she became cafeteria manager for East Central High School, Skelly and Foster Junior Highs. She truly loved all the kids she served. No child ever went hungry if she knew they didn't have lunch money. And her tills always balanced, so where do you think those free lunches came from?
Mom was generous, dependable, loving and forgiving. She was a good person, a child of God and faithful Christian. She loved her church and managed to hustle all six kids to church each Sunday. She was proud of each of us and we all knew it.
Mom was preceded in death by our brother Tracy Wayne July 6, 1960-June 20, 1980 and our father L.C. Harlan (Tracy) September 4, 1923-January 25, 1996.
