Obituary

Dan Graham Coffey, age 85, of Tulsa, OK, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024. Born on April 13, 1939, in Boone, NC, Dan was a devout Christian and was known for his steadfast faith, generous spirit, and devotion to serving others. He was named in honor of presbyterian pastor and traveling evangelist, Dan Graham, who was instrumental in establishing 27 churches in the Appalachian region.

Dan proudly attended Appalachian High School and pursued his calling in ministry at Rhema Bible Training College, earning his degree in 1981. He dedicated countless years to a nursing home ministry, offering comfort and spiritual guidance to the elderly. His unwavering commitment to his community was exemplified by his active support of numerous charities. Dan was especially dedicated to supporting John 3:16 Mission, which aides homeless men in need.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, Dan served his country with honor and dedication. After his military service, he embraced his love of 18-wheelers by traveling and exploring the country as a long-haul truck driver. Later he began his career in law enforcement by providing security for both Oral and Richard Roberts and the campus of Oral Roberts University. But his favorite job was that of being "Paw-Paw" to his two beloved granddaughters.

Dan's interests included semi-trucks, airplanes, golf, NASCAR racing, and cheering on his favorite college football team, the Appalachian State Mountaineers. His passion for life and hobbies brought joy to his family and friends.

Dan is survived by his devoted wife, Estel Baird-Coffey, of Tulsa, OK; his loving daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mark Woodrich, of Broken Arrow, OK; and his cherished granddaughters, Lindsay Walton of Prairie Grove, AR, and Olivia Woodrich of Tulsa, OK. He also leaves behind his sister, Faye Wheeler, and brother-in-law, Bill Baird, both of Boone, NC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hettie Taylor Coffey and Ellis Empesy Coffey, both of Boone, NC and 7 brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held at Browns Chapel in Boone, NC, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to John 3:16 Mission at 506 N. Cheyenne Ave., Tulsa, OK 74103 to honor Dan's enduring legacy of faith and community service.
