Daniel C. Thomas was born on August 20, 1923 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to W. Aubrey and Bertha Elizabeth (Comstock) Thomas. He died on February 10, 2016. He attended Central High School and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1941. He played in his high school band and later with friends in a band in college. He married his high school sweetheart Winnie Lou Allen on December 6, 1943 and lived in several towns including Clarksville, Tennessee while Dan attended training in U.S. Army. He served overseas in the Infantry 103rd Infantry Division as a Tech 5 and played in the Army band. After he was discharged at the end of the war he returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma and completed his undergraduate degree in Business Administration at Tulsa University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He attended law school at T.U. and graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree In 1951. Dan and Winnie made their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised a family. He was an elder in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church; he was in the Property, Casualty, Surety Production business for many years and returned to school in the 1980s and became a certified Casualty and Property Underwriter.
He and his wife, Winnie raised three children: Nancy Elizabeth (Jim) Anderson, Mark Allen (Donna) Thomas, and Peggy Thomas (Bruce) Berlin. His parents preceded him in death, as did a dear friend Dr. John Sears and eight aunts and uncles including his beloved Aunt Bonnie Thomas Impey who raised him in the Baptist church. He was baptized at the young age of ten at First Baptist Church in Tulsa. In his retirement he was an avid gardener and a "paperboy" for his entire neighborhood.
He is survived by his wife Winnie of 72 years, his three children and spouses and grandchildren: Thomas Kile (father Terry) Young, Janet Kaye Anderson(Matt), Christine Marie Cook (Matt), Chris Ferguson(Laura), W. Blaine Berlin (Amanda), Thomas Drake Berlin, and six great grandchildren: Brittany and Lindsay Cook, Corgan and Tesla Ferguson, Wyatt Allen Berlin and Willow Rose Wilson. Also his "adopted" daughter, Jean Sears (John) and her children Ryan Sears (Kathryn) and Alexis Sears (Sean) Oaks.
He was a wonderful, sweet, loving, son, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, and father, grandfather, and great grandfather He will be missed by all who knew him.
A special thanks to the staff at Legend on Mingo, and his Brightstar caretakers who helped make his last years' happy ones. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Mausoleum at 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 16, 2016. Friends are asked to donate to Alzheimer's Association, ORF, or to their favorite charity in his honor.
