David Clark Headrick, 85, of Skiatook, OK, passed from this life into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ December 17, 2016 at North County Nursing and Rehabilitation in Collinsville, OK after a long hard fought battle after breaking his hip 15 months ago and an aggressive cancer.
David was born in Tulsa, OK to Willis and Naomi (Clark) Headrick on November 3, 1931. He graduated from Will Rogers High School, After 32 years of active duty, Reserve and National Guard service he retired from the Army at the rank of Captain on Oct 30, 1983. David also served as a Deputy Sheriff from 1969-1978 for Tulsa County under Sheriff Dave Faulkner as Sargent of the Jail and Field Sargent. David was a 32nd Degree Mason and member for over 50 years.
After his retirement from the Army he remained active with other branches of the service; Navy: Sea Cadets, Air Force: CAP (Civil Air Patrol) where he served 32 years and achieved the rank of Lt Col. David enjoyed working with teens and young adults instilling in them the values, lessons and training he had learned. He had numerous Explorer Posts focused on military training. He took these young men camping, hunting, fishing, and taught them gun safety and survival training, several went on to join the Armed Forces and some became high ranking officers. His last Explorer post was active in going to and helping with Civil War Reenactments. He was successful in getting them CERT Trained (Certified Emergency Response Team) for disaster relief. Two of his grandsons participated and received this training and certification. Four of these boys went on to enlist and served in active duty. One leader had a cannon and several of the boys received their cannoneer certification, actually getting to fire the cannon. One grandson was certified for all four stations of the cannon. His pallbearers were all in his Explorer posts.
He worked extensively with CAP youth, training them for competitions and in search and rescue. Many of these teens went on to become officers as well. Participating in search and rescue with these young people were some of his most rewarding life events, resulting in several "saves" life-saving events.
