David William Jansen was welcomed into the world by Adele and Ray Jansen in a small rural town in Breese, Illinois. The date was March 9, 1947. On Sunday, the 12th of October, Dave, passed away in his sleep.
Dave graduated from Mater Dei Catholic High School in 1965 where he played basketball. This was the beginning of a lifelong love for the game of basketball, which included playing in the Air Force, coaching junior athletes for the Tulsa Junior Athletics Association and a Catholic League, refereeing for twenty years, and playing weekly up to the senior age of 65.
After graduation from high school, Dave enlisted in the United States Air Force serving four years and three months. Included in his service was eighteen months in the Far East including Korea and Japan. Upon his return from overseas, he married Dolores "Dee" Haselhorst 9/14/1968. They share two children, Michael Scott and Desiree Michelle. Dave's Air Force experience opened the door to a college education with the help of the GI Bill. Dave finished his college education at the University of Tulsa in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
Dave embarked on an outstanding law enforcement career that spanned over 50 years. He began as an audit accounting aide and subsequently became a Special Agent with the Department of Treasury, Criminal Investigation Division, retiring with 25 years of service. He continued for an additional ~ 20 years as a contract Senior Financial Investigator for the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, developing forfeiture related issues in criminal cases. After this time, he further conducted white collar investigations in the private sector for another five years. Dave loved the investigation experience of "follow the money" and the lifelong relationships he built while an agent and through the sport of basketball.
Dave generously and quietly supported organizations and individuals throughout the community. Dave loved to work with young people in coaching basketball. His favorite "fan quote" while refereeing was someone yelling "I've seen better eyes on a potato!"
Dave is survived by "Dee" his loving wife of 57 years, his children son Michael and wife Michelle Jansen, daughter Desiree and husband Jonnie Gendron, and five grandchildren Beau, Ryan, Jack, Jake and Julie. Dave was a devoted family man who supported them in good and difficult times of his boundless love and support. His surviving siblings Marilyn (Mike) Buscher, Patricia (Linus) Wessel, Willian "Bill" (Peggy) Jansen, Charles "Chuck" (Diane) Jansen, Glen Jansen & Geraldine "Geri" (Fred) Schmidt.
