David Lawrence Kimmel, 79, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024, at Zarrow Pointe in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with his children and beloved staff at Zarrow Pointe nearby.

David was born on December 16, 1944, to Rose and Alfred Kimmel, in the Bronx, New York. David was raised in the Jewish faith and lived in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx. After graduating from Columbia University, he left for graduate school at The Ohio State University, where he received his Master's Degree in mathematics. David was pursuing a PhD but left the academic world to help support and raise his two children, Phyllis and Peter. He began his long career as a computer programmer at IBM in the early 1970s and lived much of his life in Poughkeepsie NY.

David married Heidi Kalnitzky in 1991 and helped raise her two sons, Steven and Paul. After Heidi passed away in 2016, David was blessed to find love again with Liliana Schechter in Oklahoma City, where David was a member of Emanuel Synagogue.

David enjoyed playing tennis, bowling, and running. He loved to watch football, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Buffalo Bills. He also loved reading, watching movies, and keeping up with current events. David very much loved his various pets over the years (many cats and a few dogs). Kingfish, his childhood dog, always held a special place in his heart.

David leaves behind his daughter Phyllis Kimmel (Washington, DC); his son Peter Kimmel and his husband Joel (Chicago, IL); his stepson Steven Kalnitzky, his wife Kim and their son Brody (Oklahoma City, OK); his stepson Paul Kalnitzky, his wife Virginia and their daughters, Lily and Isabelle (Hyde Park, NY); and his love Liliana Schechter (Tulsa, OK) and her daughter Paola Klein (Oklahoma City, OK).

A memorial service for David will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7th, at the Zarrow Pointe Burnstein Auditorium, 2025 E 71st St, Tulsa, OK 74136.
