Obituary

David Earl Shorten, a proud son of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully June 5th, 2025, leaving behind a legacy defined by service, determination, and integrity. He was a devoted family man, a patriot, a standout athlete, and a respected businessman.
Born and raised in Tulsa, David developed a deep love for his community and an early passion for football, which led him to the University of Oklahoma where he played with pride and tenacity. His years on the gridiron instilled in him the discipline and teamwork that would guide him throughout his life.
Following his time at OU, David joined the United States Army and served his country with honor in the U.S. and Germany, receiving several commendations during his three years of distinguished military service.
After completing his service, David embarked on a successful and enduring career in sales. Through dedication and unmatched skill, he not only built a reputation as a man of his word but also achieved national recognition as one of the top 10 salespeople in the United States. Eventually, he co-founded a local fastener company, where his leadership and vision as the president left a lasting impact on all who worked with him.
David was also deeply committed to his Masonic beliefs, achieving the distinguished status of 32nd Degree Mason with Pilgrim Rock Lodge in Tulsa. His life was a testament to the Masonic values of truth, brotherhood, and service.
Those who knew David will remember his strength of character, quick wit, loyalty, and tireless work ethic. He was a man who led by example, never seeking the spotlight, but always earning respect. He leaves behind a community of family, friends, and colleagues who were enriched by his presence.
He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. His was a life well-lived-a life of purpose, perseverance, and principle.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Irene, brother Richard, wife Janet, his daughter Julie, and his granddaughter Alica.
David is survived by Carolyn Shorten, his wife of 43 years, his sons David Shorten Jr and his wife June, Rob Capraro and his wife Chat, his daughter Amy Arehart and her husband Don, as well as his grandchildren Becky Brown, Jessica Williams and her husband Mark, Amandah Hackenberger and her husband Chris, Mikayla Shorten, Jennifer Ruygrok and her husband Kyle, Devin Poulson, Dalton Poulson, and nine great-grandchildren.
