Obituary

David Alan Wilkinson, 64, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, went home to be with the Lord on December 28, 2025, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, surrounded by his loving family. David was born on December 6, 1961, at Saint John's Hospital in Tulsa to Jimmy Ray Wilkinson and Carolyn Sue Wilkinson.
David grew up in Sand Springs and from an early age enjoyed playing football and baseball. He later spent much of his childhood in Muskogee, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and developed a deep love for music, particularly the trumpet and tuba. A talented musician, he earned recognition as an All-State band member. David graduated from Muskogee High School in 1980, where he proudly served as drum major of the Pride of Muskogee and remained actively involved in band.
He went on to study music education at the University of Tulsa, where he received a full-ride scholarship for tuba performance. He later transferred to the University of Oklahoma, pursuing studies in business and architecture. During his college years, David was a proud member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and served as its fundraising chair.
On December 6, 1987, David accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa, a decision that shaped the foundation of his faith and life. He enjoyed serving through ushering and investing in youth ministry.
David was united in marriage to Penny Loraine Bird on September 28, 1996, at Fellowship Bible Church. Together, they built a life rooted in faith and family and welcomed three children: daughters Danielle and Bethany, and son Joel, who were the pride and joy of his life.
Throughout his career, David worked in construction, building and property maintenance, private contracting, and home repairs. He was known for his strong work ethic, resourcefulness, and willingness to help others.
Outside of work, David loved gastronomy, particularly enjoying grilling and smoking meat, and worked very hard to develop and perfect his iconic meat rub. He delighted in sharing food, laughter, and his signature dad jokes with anyone who would listen. David also loved spending time at the beach, reading about history and politics, and enjoying music in all forms. His lifelong love of music endured through whistling tunes to listening to favorites such as Dean Martin, Acapella, Alan Jackson, and Rich Mullins.
David was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Wilkinson, and his step-brother, Aaron Wilkinson. He is survived by his mother, Carolyn (Robison) Wilkinson; his beloved wife, Penny Wilkinson; his children, Danielle Wilkinson (27), Bethany Wilkinson (26), and Joel Wilkinson (23); his sister, Julie Moore; his brother, Timothy Wilkinson; his niece, Heather Miller; his nephew, Jared Moore; and many other family members and beloved friends.
David was laid to rest on December 31st at Memorial Park cemetery. A memorial service celebrating David's life will be held on Saturday, January 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Fellowship Bible Church at 5434 East 91st Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma 74137.
