David has a BA degree in Radio/TV production from the University of Tulsa. For 37 years David produced major conferences/expositions for the Society of Exploration Geophysicists around the world, including Moscow, Beijing, Jakarta, Istanbul, Cairo, Rio de Janerio, and Mexico City. David produced major stage shows and events with entertainers, Donald O'Connor, George Burns, Henry Mancini, Bob Newhart, and many others. Several of the entertainment events were written by David for Donald O'Connor, Carol Lawrence, and others. One major stage show David wrote for 'Singin' in the Rain' star, Donald O'Connor was entitled the "MGM Story".
Another stage show written for Broadway's star West Side Story starred Carol Lawrence, was entitled, "Small World" was produced in Houston, Texas. The show was also headlined Eugene Cernan, the last NASA astronaut to walk on the moon. David also produced events with Hollywood musical luminaries, Nelson Riddle, David Raksin, Henry Mancini, and David Rose.
David also wrote a documentary for PBS TV, on oil exploration "Seeing the Unseen". It starred the actor, John Forsythe.
In the early 1990's David formed his own entertainment company and continues as President for "Signature Productions".
David served in the United States Army during the 60s.
Titled "The MGM Story: Movies...Music...Magic!", the show is a loosely chronological look at the history of MGM musicals, from the 1929 "Broadway Melody," one of the first musicals ever made, to the 1964 Elvis Presley vehicle, "Viva Las Vegas." Finally, there was a great deal about the show that was very good. Producer and script writer David L. Yowell of Tulsa managed to compress a good deal of movie and musical history into the two-hour show, including a touching tribute in words and music to the late Ralph Blane, who had been involved in the preparations for this production.

David is survived by wife of 56 wonderful years, Julia (Bolen) Yowell, two children and 5 grandchildren.
Daughter, Laura Hodges, her husband Sam, their children, Gabrielle, Sean, and Stefan.
Son, Jeffrey David Yowell, wife Holly, their children, Daniel and Andy.
Brother, Robert and his wife Jean.
