Dennis Wayne Drullinger

Dennis Wayne Drullinger (born November 6, 1945) was a Great American. He left us on earth to join his Heavenly Father on November 7, 2013. His family and friends will forever miss him. Dennis graduated from Hale High School in 1964. He was the starting Center on the 1963 ? State Runner-up Football team while also wrestling for the Hale Rangers. Dennis married his high school sweetheart, Tommie Lyn Hisel,in July 2,1965.

He was drafted into the Army in 1967. He was a member of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade, 3rd Battalion and 21st Infantry, Delta Company 2nd Platoon and fought in the Vietnam War. In January 1968, Drullinger, a U.S. Army specialist, was shot in the shoulder during a battle in the Vietnam War after killing 10 North Vietnamese. Later he was captured, thrown into a pile of dead bodies and eventually escaped after three days. While escaping from being a POW with no weapon he was able to crawl to some American troops and provided the Army Captain with accurate artillery and mortar coordinates to hit the NVA?s fortifications. Dennis was awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart and inducted into Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame in 2009. http://www.nathanhalealumni.org/drullinger.htm

Dennis worked his entire career in the food industry. He spent many years managing large food operations with Saga & Canteen supporting customers like American Airlines, Tulsa Junior College, Connors State College and Oral Roberts University. He retired after 20 years as Assistant Director of Dietary at St. John Medical Center. He enjoyed coaching his son in baseball and other sports while building long lasting friendships. Dennis was an active member in the Tulsa Birddog Club and actually helped create the ?Gun Dog? trial rules and regulations. He enjoyed training English Pointers which is how he earned his nickname from his son and friends as ?BirdDog?.

Dennis never met a stranger. He made people laugh with his humor and stories. People instantly liked him because he made people feel comfortable. He was loyal, honest and was a good Samaritan. He enjoyed helping other people. Dennis loved his family especially his wife for 48 years, Tommie Lyn, his son, T.W., daughter-in-law Shelly, twin granddaughters, Macey & Darcey and grandson, Ty that will help carry-on the Drullinger name. His loving sister, Dru Hampton, also survives him. The Memorial celebration of Dennis?s life will be on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Redeemer Covenant Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Redeemer Covenant Church or Metro Christian Academy in memory of Dennis Drullinger.
