Obituary for Denny A. Wasson
Dennis "Denny" Arthur Wasson was born December 6, 1944 in Tulsa, OK to Arthur Hershel Wasson and Minnie Beatrice "Edna" Guthrie Wasson, who resided in Jenks, OK. Denny entered his Heavenly home at age 70 on Saturday, July 18, 2015 following surgery at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa.
While living in Wichita, KS, Denny joined the Kansas Army National Guard on June 1, 1967, was called into active duty and was sent to Fort Carson, CO, during the Viet Nam War. He served as Company Clerk to a light weapons infantry and his Company earned the National Defense Service Medal. Denny was honorably discharged on December 12, 1969. He continued to display patriotism by proudly posting the American flag at his residence. Denny worked for the City of Wichita in the City Planning Department where he designed many traffic intersections. While living in Cocoa Beach, FL, he was a draftsman for a brief time. He returned to Wichita where he worked for several years until he moved to Tulsa. He followed his sister and brother-in-law to Tulsa, and then his parents moved here from Wichita. Denny became an art director for a local advertising company for several years. Beginning in 1987, he proved himself to be a valued draftsman with Public Service Company of Oklahoma for many years, then he worked for a local field services company until his retirement.
He spent much of his life with buddies who shared his passion for marksmanship. Denny became an acclaimed muscle car enthusiast who entered, placed, and won many Mopar and classic car show contests throughout the years in Tulsa and surrounding areas. His home office is filled with trophies and plaques from these events. Denny is survived by brother-in-law, Maynard "Sid" Sidman, and nieces, Debbie Sidman Ash and Donna Sidman Collins, all of Broken Arrow; great-nieces Angela Ash of Broken Arrow and Stephanie Stiles Caldwell (Drew and daughters) of GA; great-nephews Aaron Ash USAF of NC, Anthony Ash of Broken Arrow, Matthew Collins of Broken Arrow, and Nathan Collins of AR. He is also survived by Suzi Taylor of Sand Springs and her extended family, along with many lifelong friends who will miss him dearly. Denny is preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Sue Wasson Sidman, and his parents. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
