Obituary

Dolores Ann Moyer passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2020, surrounded by family, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on July 21, 1935 in RedStone Township, Pennsylvania to Virginia Lilley and Oscar Ortega. Her mother later married Charles Sloan, who adopted Dolores, and together they gave her two little sisters, Regina and Eileen. Dolores graduated from Uniontown High School, where she was a High School Cheerleader, met her High School sweetheart, Curtis Moyer, and on May 28, 1955 they were married. They moved to Amarillo, Texas for Curtis to finish his United States Air Force career, then moved to Chicago, Illinois for a brief period before settling in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1957.
Dolores worked in accounting for many years, for numerous oil companies. After having their children, Sharon and Bruce, Dolores went back to school, at age 41, and became a Nurse. She worked for many doctors and hospitals in Tulsa throughout her career and retired as an Ophthalmic Surgical Nurse. After retirement, she volunteered as a Pink Lady at St. John Medical Center. She truly loved being a Nurse.
Dolores loved to keep busy. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to crochet. Her kids and grandkids were always excited to receive something homemade on holidays. She loved arts and crafts and giving away her projects. She was extremely involved in the Camp Fire Girl Program with Sharon, serving as her group leader from Blue Birds through Wo-He-Lo and helping in their Tulsa Office. She was Bruce's biggest fan at all his games, no matter what sport he was participating in. "Grammie" continued to be a fan at her grandsons' games and her granddaughters' dance recitals. She even started tap dance classes as a grandmother and performed in her own recitals. She and Curt were members for many years at the Candlewood Club until joining the Tulsa Elks Club in 1997, and they never missed a chance to dance the night away with their friends.
When the Moyers weren't at some kids' activity, they were at Ft Gibson Lake, where over the years they always had a boat and progressed from tent camping to campers to two different lake properties. Dolores loved their last place, "The Cabin" at Long Bay. She was known to water ski right along with the kids. She never learned to swim, so it was a common sight to see her wearing her ever-present ski belt. Dolores loved family gatherings, whether at the Cabin or during any holiday.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Eileen Meyer. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Curtis Moyer; her sister Regina Kubiak (Jerry); her daughter, Sharon DeGroot (Lee); her son Bruce B. Moyer; grandchildren Blake Cloud (Kaleia), Josh DeGroot, Alicia Patrick (Tucker), Hayley Tims (Reed), and Mason Moyer (Kady); great-grandchildren Rayden and Laikyn Holloway, Bruce C. Moyer, and Jackson Patrick; many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Dolores was a proud and active Irish Catholic her whole life. In keeping with Dolores's love of life and being a Nurse, please consider making a donation in her memory to Rose Rock Hospice in Tulsa, in lieu of flowers. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
