Donald Ross Baumunk, 90, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013. He was born May 11, 1923 in LaHarpe, Kansas, a town of 500 people at the time. He was one of two boys born to Lowell Brooks Baumunk and Phyllis L. Brady. He was known as Ross when he attended LaHarpe High School, and graduated in 1941
as valedictorian and President of his senior class.
He attended Kansas University later that year, but his college was interrupted when he decided to enlist in the military in 1943. He served through 1946 and attained the level of Sergeant, training air crews for combat in the Army Air Force. He returned to KU in the summer of 1947 and graduated in 1948 with a degree in Accounting. That same year, Don married Eleanor Etta Stewart, and took a new job with Amoco, in Tulsa, OK.
He spent thirty eight years with the company in finance and
accounting management positions in Tulsa, Chicago and Denver,
and retired in the Denver office as Director of Internal Audit.
He and Eleanor were long time members of Asbury Methodist church.
He was President of Petroleum Accountants Society of Oklahoma, the Tulsa Men's Club, and a member of Oaks Country Club. He was a devoted husband of 59 years and a loving father to his three children, Donna Cropper (husband Steve), Doug Baumunk (wife Nancy), and Lori Fitzgerald (husband Bob). He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor and his older brother Lowell Jr. of Castle Rock, CO. He is survived by his three children, eight grandchildren (Michael, Brian, Stephanie, Emily, Caroline, Kristin, Sarah, Kevin) and four great grandchildren.
He enjoyed dancing, golf, music, and playing clarinet in the Asbury Dixieland Band. Don was a splendid role model and spiritual leader for his family. His honesty and integrity were uncompromising and he mixed in a pleasingly wry sense of humor. He was a true gentleman, and will be remembered for his gracious attitude towards others and for being a devout follower of the "Golden Rule".
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday June 29 at Asbury Methodist Church, Mason Chapel. The family expresses their appreciation to the staff at Montereau that provided exceptional care to Don during his several years in residence there. Charitable contributions in Don's honor can be
