Donald D. Mathews was born in Tulsa, OK, on July 2, 1927, and passed into heaven on May 14, 2018, at the age of 90 years. He celebrated his 70 years of marriage with Joyce Bradley Mathews, this past October 2. Mr. Mathews attended the Pryor Creek Baptist Church and had also attended Faith Baptist Church in Chouteau. He found his religious calling at the Tulsa Baptist Temple, then went on to help found and build the Bible Baptist Temple, in Tulsa, attending there from the founding in 1958 until moving to Chouteau in 1993.
His religious beliefs were important to him. He served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and sang in a quartet at Bible Baptist Temple. He loved music and instilled the love of music into his children and many others.
He was also an excellent golfer and played regularly as long as he was able. He played countless rounds of golf at his favorite, Mohawk Park. He won many golf tournaments in the Tulsa area.
He was a trim contractor throughout most of his working life working on hundreds of homes in the Tulsa area. In the latter part of his career he built one home a year, completing much of the work himself. He built several homes for his family.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Donna Mathews and Deborah Henry (Mike Henry), beloved grandsons Bradley (Krystal), Adam and Mitchell, great-grandchildren Connor, Taylor, Ethan and Garrett, many well-loved nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charley Lee Mathews and Aire Mae Colvard Mathews, his brother, Denver Lee Mathews, and his sisters, Dorothy Izetta, Charlene Delma and Maydell.
Visitation 6-8 P.M., Friday, May 18, 2018 at Pryor Creek Baptist Church, 32 S. Adair St., Pryor, OK. Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Pryor Creek Baptist Church. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233.
