Obituary

Captain Donald V. Sharp left this world peacefully for eternal rest with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 12, 2015. He was born April 15, 1925 to Roy and Bess Sharp in Jonesboro, AR. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra K. Sharp; his parents; and two brothers, Roy, Jr. and Paul. Donald graduated from Jonesboro High School and Arkansas State University. During WWII, he served with the marines in the Pacific Theatre. During his tour, his battalion guarded the Enola Gay on Tinian. Upon graduation from college and having been commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the army, he was recalled to service for the duration of the Korean war. He also served with the 45th Div. of Oklahoma National Guard for 17 years. In addition, Donald volunteered with Meals on Wheels for 15 years, never missing a day and filling in for others on many occasions. Donald was a wonderful loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Alma June Sharp; son, Donald "Butch" Sharp, Jr. and his wife Donna Deere Sharp of Osage Co., OK; granddaughter, Sarah M. Harp of Austin, TX; and sister, Sara Keller of Jonesboro, AR. He will be remembered as a devout Christian and a true gentleman.
