Obituary

Donald L. "Don" Wagner
Born on September 7, 1932 in Mulberry, AR, Don graduated from Tulsa Central as part of the "Nifty Class of '50". His business career began in 1951 with Skelly Oil Company, but was briefly interrupted by two years of active duty in the Navy from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he returned to Skelly and attended Tulsa University where graduated with a degree in Management in 1959.
He advanced through several administrative and supervisory positions at Skelly and Getty, eventually retiring from Texaco in 1987 as Manager of Corporate Services and administrative support for the Tulsa offices. He was a devoted member of the Institute of Management Accountants, eventually serving as National Vice President of IMA after his retirement from Texaco. He also loved Junior Achievement of Tulsa, where he volunteered for many years. He was known in JA circles as "Mr. Project Business" for his love of JA's 8th grade economics program. He served as JA-Tulsa's interim President for two stints during his retirement.
In February, 1952 he married his long-time sweetheart, Louise Worley, of Skiatook, OK, with whom he celebrated 65 years of loving marriage. They loved the outdoors and the RV lifestyle traveling throughout the US during their retirement years. Being a Razorback by birth, Don was a devoted "Pigee" fan (except when Arkansas played Tulsa University) and incorporated Arkansas football into their retirement lifestyle.
Don accepted Christ as his Savior on his 15th birthday and was committed to his faith throughout his life. He and Louise were devoted members of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church where Don served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. In retirement, they served as members of the Free Will Baptist church building team.
He was known for his many enduring friendships established during his long career at Skelly/Getty/Texaco, his service in the community, and his active church membership. He also loved making new acquaintances. By employing a simple question, "Where are you from originally?" he would quickly establish a connection to a mutual friend, event, or point of interest and more often than not, a fascinating conversation would follow.
Don is survived by his wife, Virginia Louise; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Rex Hall of Tulsa; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Pam Wagner, also of Tulsa; his brother Raymond Wagner of Houston, TX; and his sister Jodi Muenker of Longview, TX. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Eric and Lacy Hall, Lindsey and Adam Case, Meredith and Jake Briscoe, Allison and Ryan Nussbaum, Trevor and Alex Hall, Jessie and Ty Bennett, Carson and Rachel Wagner, Angela and Theron Smentek, Brady and Meghan Wagner, Rachelle Wagner, Duke Wagner, Teresa Wagner, Sullivan Wagner, and Nikki Wagner; and 8 great grandchildren, Ruby, Baylor, Cy, and Walker Hall, Daphne, Levi, and Ezekiel Wagner, Mackenzie Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Nola Wagner.
