Obituary

Donna S. Burnett went to her Savior and heavenly home on Sunday, January 15, 2023. She was born September 12, 1942 in Nowata, OK to Arnold Elroy Cooper and J. Lucille (Foster) Cooper.

Donna Sue was a pastor's wife and missionary to Southeast Asia with her husband, Sam Burnett. She came to know the Lord as a young child and spent her life faithfully serving Him. She poured her life into others, loving them gently and serving them fiercely. She humbly served alongside her husband for 55 years, being the pastor's wife that was always behind the scenes, serving her church family and community in the ways that she was called. She was a faithful prayer warrior for many and a spiritual leader to others in fellowship. Donna loved God's word with all of her being and strived every day to know and love God more. The Lord blessed her with a gentle spirit and a heart that loved people. Her desire was that her life point others to Christ.

She attended Southwestern University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She met her husband, Sam, at a missions meeting through the Baptist Student Union while attending college there. She started her career as an Elementary School Teacher. After a few years teaching, she made the decision to continue serving her community alongside her husband Sam in the ministry. While serving in the ministry, she also took great pride in raising her children. She served alongside her husband in Weatherford Oklahoma; Challis and Telephone, Texas; Detroit, Michigan; Holdenville and Tulsa, Oklahoma. She spent many years cultivating lifelong friendships and relationships with the people she served. They retired from the pastorate in 1995 and followed God's call together to Southeast Asia as Missionaries. Together they served the people of Vietnam, not only in Vietnam but continuing in the States after their retirement from the mission field. Her servant's heart, gentle spirit, and love for Christ made an impact on those she served in Vietnam. While reminiscing, one friend even described her smile as big as her heart. In her many years of service in the ministry, she impacted many people all over the World. She was loved by all and will be remembered as a Christ Follower and friend that positively impacted all she came into contact with. Her love for her family was so strong, but her love for the Lord was her stronghold. She will be greatly missed, but those that knew her rejoice in the fact that she is with her Savior.

She is survived by 3 children, Suzann Burnett of Coweta, OK; Docia Gayle Garrett of Broken Arrow, OK; and Aaron Burnett (Brenda) of Watseka Illinois, and an Honorary daughter, Greta Beaver of Coweta, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Emma Garrett, Sarah Neeley (Ryan), Laura Garrett, Michaela Garrett, and Aidan, Isla, and Ethan Burnett. She had the greatest pleasure to love her great grandsons, Carter and Carson for 2.5 years before her homecoming. She is also survived by countless nieces and nephews who dearly loved their Aunt Donna. She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Burnett; parents, A.E. Cooper and Lucille Cooper; her brother, Elroy Cooper, her niece, Shena; and son in law, Tom Garrett.
