Obituary

Devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Donna Kay Owen Simonson Hedgecock, lovingly known as "Nonna" to her grandchildren, age 78, of Tulsa, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 24, 2026.

Donna was born on July 4, 1947, in Oklahoma City to R.S. and Loydene Owen. She graduated from Harding High School in 1965, where she was active in Mu Alpha Theta, Phi Epsilon, and Honor Society; served as Vice President of Future Teachers of America; was an all-school cheerleader; a yearly Class Favorite; and Aquila Queen.

She attended Oklahoma State University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and earned her master's degree in Speech Pathology. Donna married her high school sweetheart, Mike, in 1968, and together with their three children lived in Tulsa, Little Rock, and Seattle (Kirkland). After Mike's hard-fought battle with cancer, she found love again, marrying Jerry Hedgecock in 2015.

Donna dedicated 45 years as a Speech Pathologist, beginning at the Cerebral Palsy Center in Norman and later serving students at Christian schools in Little Rock, Seattle (Redmond), and Tulsa, as well as children who were deaf or hard of hearing and adults with physical and intellectual challenges. A cheerful caregiver, she exemplified her love for Jesus in all she did. She had a heart for others and showed kindness to everyone she met.

She started Bible studies wherever she lived-hosting gatherings in Kirkland with her children and neighborhood kids, leading weekly studies for many years at The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges, pioneering daily devotions in her retirement community, and helping launch a grief group there with the chaplain. She was also active in her church and the local Red Hats Society.

Donna is survived by her children, Stacey Simonson Rogers of Tulsa, Jessica Simonson Brogdon of Tulsa, and Todd Simonson and Eeling Quek of Singapore; grandchildren, Camryn, Jade, Olivia, and Jack; sister, Linda Neaves of Little Rock; and sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Paul Teague of Edmond. She was preceded in death by her parents, R.S. and Loydene Owen, and Mike Simonson and Jerry Hedgecock.

A celebration of Donna's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home-Southlawn in Tulsa, with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and a graveside service to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
