Donnell (Don) Marion "Buck" Buchanan, age 92, resident of Tulsa, OK passed away on Thursday afternoon, April 11th, 2019 at his home in Tulsa, OK.
Don was born on April 12th, 1926 to Gilbert Austin Buchanan and Florine Ross Warrick in Prescott, Arkansas. He was a graduate of Prescott High School, and later attended the University of Central Arkansas. Don joined the United States Navy in June of 1944, where he served as a Seaman First Class aboard the USS Argonne and the SS Laura Drake Gill until he was honorably discharged on March 11th, 1946. He was proud to have served his country and was a veteran of World War II. Don and June LaDon Rafferty were married on December 24th, 1950 in Prescott, AR.
In his younger days, Don worked in vacuum sales, and even drove a taxi. After getting married, Don worked as a lab core engineer until he retired in 1984 after 32 years of service for Amoco. Don was an avid sports fan and worked as an official for local high school basketball and football games. Don was an inaugural inductee into The Greater Tulsa Officials Hall of Fame in 1988 and was later inducted into The Oklahoma Officials Hall of Fame in 1994. Don also had a huge passion for hunting and fishing, spending many hours with his friends and family hunting and fishing all around Oklahoma and Arkansas. While he loved the thrill of the hunt, he most enjoyed just spending time with his family, and friends socializing around the campfire at night.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, sister Clara Johnson, and brother Paul Buchanan. Don is survived by his wife of over 68 years, LaDon Buchanan of the home in Tulsa, OK; his son Don Buchanan and wife, Trina of Coweta, OK, his daughter Donna Buchanan of Tulsa, OK; 3 grandchildren, Beau Buchanan, Sharla Winfrey, and Luke Buchanan; 4 great grandchildren, Colin Buchanan, Emma Buchanan, Paige Winfrey, and Kylie Winfrey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 14, 2019 from 3 to 5pm at Moore Funeral Home - Southlawn Chapel. Services are set for 2pm, Monday, April 15, 2019 also at Moore Funeral Home - Southlawn Chapel with interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery.
