Obituary

Doris Elaine (Martens) Buxton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, born to John and Selma Martens on June 16, 1925 in Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019. Doris spent her childhood and adolescence in Lincoln with her older brother Bob until they moved to Seward, Nebraska during her senior year of high school. Preceded in death by her husband (2003), James Herbert Buxton, 'Jim and Dodie' met on a blind date as students at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Doris graduated from UNL with her degree in Business Administration in June of 1947, while continuing to date Jim. Upon Jim's graduation, they were married in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 24, 1949. Jim's job with Gulf Oil Company eventually brought them to Oklahoma where they would spend 53 wedded years together, raising their three sons; David, Doug and Chris.

Throughout adulthood, Doris would remain very close to her brother Bob and his wife Mary, often vacationing with their children together. Both siblings loved that their children were able to have such close relationships as cousins and encouraged the same with their own grandchildren. Doris was known for her impeccable and timeless style, her keen eye for a good bargain, and her thoughtful gift giving. She loved dancing, cheering on her Cornhuskers, spending time with her family, and keeping up with her (great) grandchildren.

Doris is survived by her three sons, and three daughters-in-law: David and Rosemary Buxton (of Tulsa, OK), Doug and Leanne Buxton (of Tulsa, OK), and Chris and Wanda Buxton (of Richmond, TX). She was blessed with 6 grandchildren: Jennifer and Michael McClendon, Ashley and Mark Rubey, Spencer and Jenene Buxton, Taylor Buxton, Madeleine Buxton and Jack Buxton, and 4 great grandchildren; Hudson and Cooper McClendon, George and Hazel Rubey. The family is thankful for the extended care and support provided by Inverness Village, where Doris resided since 2003, and to Grace Hospice for their loving end of life care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris' honor to the Alzheimer's Association or the Salvation Army, two organizations she felt very strongly about supporting for the work they do to help others.

Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 3, 2019 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
