Obituary

Dorothy Colleen Carter (Skirts) Dorothy Colleen Halstead was born February 19, 1932, in Ponca City, Okla. Left this life September 24, 2024. She was preceded in death by her birth parents; adoptive parents Galen and Alice Halstead; four brothers GB, Bus, John and Warren and three sisters. She leaves behind her Beloved husband John of 73 years; Faithful doggie Buddy; Daughter, Vicki Hazelwood and husband Harley of Claremore; her son, John "Randy" and wife Joan of Owasso; Four Grandchildren, Allison, Jonathon, Jamie and Jodie; Four Great-Grandchildren; Dakota, Sierra, Laramie and Drake; Four Great-Great-Grandchildren; Taegan, Hazel, Oaklynn and Charlee. Many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many friends from work and church.

Dorothy was an exceptional woman. Adventurous at heart she loved to travel on motorcycles, float down the Illinois River, water ski and she was hell on wheels when it came to four wheelers.
She loved to dance, square dancing as a teenager, then later with her daughter and family. She clogged, two step, rock & rolled and her favorite was waltzing with John. She also enjoyed camping (not glamping), fishing and ice skating (which is how she met John and it all began).
Being very talented in the arts: tole painting, sewing, crocheting, cake decorating, making stained glass windows, lamp shades, ceramics, copper tooling and later in life she developed the love of coloring.

She shopped for antiques and would refinish and restore furniture (well John would rebuild, and she would refinish). She took pride in her Victorian style furnishing in her beautiful home. She always had an eye for interior design.

Being raised on a farm she loved all animals; especially, her dogs and chickens. Who else would have a "house chicken"? She also raised canaries. She really had a soft spot for animals, and they all loved her. Dorothy raised a wild bird which did not want to leave but eventually answered the call of the wild, but it came back to say thank you and goodbye.

She raised two children and was married to one man for over 73 years. She kept an amazing home was a great cook and avid gardener.

John and Dorothy were always together. She would think of something, and John would make it happen, what a team!

In her 60's she started riding bicycles with her daughter on freewheel, which is a 500-mile camping trip across Oklahoma. As she got older, she found another passion "coloring" she held coloring and domino parties with her lady friends from Life Touch and church. These friends have remained to this day.

She will never be forgotten but will be deeply missed by all.

Love You Mom.
