Obituary

Douglas L. Mobley passed away peacefully on January 25, 2023 in Tulsa. He was born October 11, 1935 in Tulsa Oklahoma to William Lee Mobley and Jessie Mae Elmore. He graduated from Central High School in Tulsa and Oklahoma State University, after serving in the United States Army for two years in Korea. He was married to Donna Kaufman Mobley for 65 years before her death on October 5, 2020. Doug is survived by his daughters Lisa Mobley Evans and her husband, Jim, Dru Ann Hammer, Melinda Mobley Wheeler and her husband, David. Eight grandchildren, Carly Evans Edgar, Brady Colvert Evans, Jessie Evans Zei, Armie Hammer, Viktor Hammer, Hattie Wheeler Meyers, Buck Wheeler, and Lilly Wheeler. Nine great-grandchildren, Perry Edgar, Hampton Edgar, Libby Evans, James Evans, Kate Evans, Harper Hammer, Ford Hammer, Louie Zei and Winnie Zei.

Doug loved his family. God was always first in his life. He always made a point of telling his family he loved them and how proud he was of them. He was always ready to help them, and also many others who were in need.

Doug and Donna had a very special marriage. Doug could not financially afford to finish his last two years of college, so Donna gave up her full academic scholarship and worked as a secretary for the Assistant Dean of Women at OSU to enable Doug to complete his degree.

Doug loved sports. He was a champion tennis player at Southern Hills Country Club and Tulsa Tennis Club. He and Donna met while attending an OSU basketball game during their freshman year. Doug didn't have a ticket to the game and called the Pi Phi Sorority House to say he would take anyone with an extra ticket to the game. This was their first date and they were married two years later. Throughout their wonderful marriage, Doug and Donna were huge fans and attended most of the home games.

It is said that Will Rogers "never met a man he didn't like." It was said about Doug Mobley, "He never met anyone that he did not share the good news and saving grace of the love of God through His Son, Jesus Christ." That's why Doug was called "the Rev" by many who knew him.

Doug was an astute businessman. He liked to refer himself as "a small businessman and a country banker." However, most of his small country banks always ranked at or near the top rated banks in the state for their strength and profitability. Doug and his partner, Dwight Claxton, also developed several residential and commercial real estate properties over the years in Tulsa.

In addition to his business interests, Doug also helped Christian meetings domestically and abroad, sharing God's plan of Salvation. His meetings were paid for by the Douglas L. Mobley Foundation, as Doug would tithe 10% of his investment income into the Foundation. For the most part, those who attended these meetings were very poor. Several thousand people came forward at the meetings over the years to receive Christ as Savior. No offering was taken at the meetings.

The Douglas L. Mobley Foundation has helped support many pastors around the world and has helped to build churches and orphanages in very poor areas of the world. It has given monthly financial support to many people in need.

Doug followed the biblical admonition to keep your giving between you and God, seeking no recognition.

As a young man while growing up, Doug did not attend church. After graduating from college, he believed his business endeavors would give him satisfaction and happiness. He soon realized that nothing aside from a personal relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ would bring true peace and joy.

A group of Tulsa businessmen shared this personal relationship with Doug in 1964. At that time, he prayed to receive Christ as his personal Savior, and was filled with His Holy Spirit. From that point forward, God became first in every area of his life. This same relationship with Christ is available to everyone by simply asking Him to "come into my heart, forgive me for my sins, Jesus, I thank you for dying on the cross and shedding your precious blood for me."
