Grady Joe Walker, Ph. D.
Dr. Grady Walker passed away December 1, 2014, at the age of 86. Born on October 20, 1928, Dr. Walker served in the United States Army in Germany after World War II. He studied German and English literature in his higher education, eventually receiving a Ph. D. from the University of Tulsa. His teaching career included serving Oklahoma State University, Southeastern State University, Cameron State College, Tulsa Community College, and—for forty-one years—Oral Roberts University, where he was granted Professor Emeritus status upon his retirement. Dr. Walker was one of eight children of Joe Walker and Callie Rowland. He is survived by a nephew, Eric Walker, two great-nephews, Chris Prince and Daniel Prince, and two great-nieces, Luann Herrington and Melissa Prince.
Dr. Walker is remembered for his grand hospitality in his various homes—all filled with Victorian and other antique furniture and artworks—and for his support and encouragement of the many students he taught over his years at Oral Roberts University. His friends and his fellow teachers remember especially Grady's fine dinner parties and his elaborate home-cooked feasts, his delightful humor and eccentricities. Grady loved to travel, especially in Germany, where he had friends dating from his Army service. He authored one novel, Gallery of the Grotesque, loosely based on his growing up in Western Oklahoma. He devoted himself to English literature, which he loved, and led several study trips to the D. H. Lawrence Ranch in Taos, New Mexico.
