Duane Edward Block, 64, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, March 10, 2019. He passed peacefully at his residence in Tulsa, OK, surrounded by his loving family. Duane was born on Saturday, April 3, 1954, in Lancaster, WI, to William Block and Shirley (Pasold) Block. Duane was a hard worker, and was the Lead Mechanic at Melton Trucking for many years. His strong work ethic was instilled in him at a young age, by growing up on a dairy farm, where he was a member of 4-H, and enjoyed showing the cattle he raised. Duane graduated from High School in Lancaster, WI in 1974. He then joined the United States Navy, and was proud to serve from 1976 to 1979, on a CV66 Aviation Ordination Kitty Hawk-class Super carrier ship. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he moved to Tulsa, OK, where he met the love of his life, Billie Sue (Ray) Block. They were married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1980, and they were happily married for 36 years, when she went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2016.
Duane had a kind, gentle spirit, valued his friendships and relationships, and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he was very active, and enjoyed attending various church activities. As a person who lived his faith, he believed in helping wherever he was needed, and he enjoyed participating in fundraisers for The American Cancer Society. Duane was known for countless acts of generosity and kindness, many of which we will never know, and he leaves behind a legacy of caring that affected many people. He was a sports fan and enjoyed NASCAR racing, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He also had an adventurous spirit, and enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle. Duane was an excellent Smoke Master, and his friends and family enjoyed his delicious smoked brisket and bologna.
Duane is survived by daughter, Alicia Block and husband, Christopher Tubbs, of Tulsa, OK; stepdaughter, Melissa Houston of Missouri; stepson, Jeffrey Woodard of Oilton, OK; 2 brothers, Steven Block of Boscobel, WI, and Dale Block of Rice Lake, WI; sister, Crystall Swindall of Austin, TX; 7 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a lifetime of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and beloved wife. Duane will be greatly missed in the days ahead, but his spirit and memories will live on within each of us, because we were privileged to have him in our lives.
