Obituary

Dwayne Dale Cox was born January 25, 1933, Douglas, Garfield, OK to Homer E. Cox and Ruth Weldon-Cox, ad passed away Sunday December 8, 2013.
At the age of 10, the family left the farm and moved to Enid, where Dwayne graduated from Enid High School.

Dwayne enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 and completed "Boot Camp" at The Naval Training Center, San Diego, CA. They traveled by train to Jacksonville, FL where he attended "Aircraft Fundamental School". "Aircraft Engine School" completed his training at Memphis, TN.

Dwayne met his beloved wife, Virginia Ruth Herrian, while on Thanksgiving leave and following a "Whirlwind Courtship" they married Jan 1, 1952, in Enid.

Upon completion of his training, Dwayne was transferred to the Navy Base in Norman, OK. Where he was stationed February 25, 1952 thru May 1954. He joined a squadron at Cecil Field Navy Base in Jacksonville, FL in June 1954. Moved again when the squadron's home base was changed to Oceana, VA in October 1954.

Dwayne spent shipboard duty out of Norfolk, when the USS Intrepid was being outfitted with steam catapults, and his squadron went aboard for training and to make sure they worked.

Dwayne was honorably discharged from the Navy in Norfolk, VA on April 26, 1955 as an Aviation Machinist Mate Third Class.

He and Virginia and daughter Karen Sue moved home to Enid where Dwayne did various types of work. A son, Randy Dale was born.

In March of 1960 Dwayne transferred from Vance Air Force Base to the Federal Aviation Agency in Oklahoma City, where he was the mechanic who flew on the 880, 720, and 727 aircraft as well as the Lockheed Electra to support the pilots when they went on a training flight away from the FAA Center.

Their third child, Kevin Dwayne was born while they lived in Yukon.

In April 1968 Dwayne transferred from FAA to Tulsa where he began a career with the Department of Defense. At this time he began his work with Defense Contracts, at the McDonnell-Douglas Plant and Spartan Aviation.

He transferred to Greenville, TX to the E-Systems Plant, where Dwayne was a Supervisory Quality Assurance Representative responsible for accepting the maintenance and delivery of the Presidential Special Air Missions planes for the President and his cabinet.

In June 1978, he was promoted and transferred to Tulsa to the McDonnell-Douglas plant, to be Branch Chief of Quality Division, responsible for acceptance of the F-4 fighter jets on contract.

During Dwayne's career he received numerous awards and "Outstanding Performance Ratings." He became Division Chief of Quality at the DCASPRO office, responsible for two major contractors, McDonnell-Douglas and Rockwell.

Dwayne retired on June 3, 1989, after 34 years of Government service. He received the "Distinguished Career Award: from Defense Logistics Agency.

Upon retirement Dwayne and Virginia enjoyed traveling in a motorhome, spending time at South Fork, CO in summers and part of winter in South Texas.

Dwayne is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia of 61 years, daughter, Karen Sue Cox, sons, Randy and Renee, and Kevin and Vona. A sister Barbara and Johnny Booze.

Grandchildren: Nathan, Amanda, Jason, Lauren, Matt and Patty Boskie-Holweg.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and a sister.
