Marian Bowen (Edna Marian Bowen), age 99, died at The Cottage Extended Care facility in Tulsa, OK on Sunday, September 17, 2017 just three months short of her centennial birthday.
Born December 18, 1917 in Tulsa, OK to Charles Alfred and Edna M. Persons, she graduated from Central High School in Tulsa and attended the University of Tulsa where she met the love of her life Carl E. Bowen. Marian and Carl married in 1941, and shortly thereafter Carl was sent to Europe where he served with distinction in the US Army until the war was over. Marian stayed in Tulsa and worked during the war years.
Marian and Carl settled in Tulsa once again after the war, where they raised their family, took care of both of their families of origin, and while Carl was a long time employee of Texaco, Marian was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, niece, granddaughter, and aunt to all in her family. She was an avid volunteer and always maintained an active presence with her beloved Episcopal Church, and over the years in Tulsa accumulated hundreds of friends and admirers.
Marian was quick to laugh, loved to tell stories and jokes, was the first to step up and help if someone was in need, and was beloved and trusted by all who came to know her. She always had a gleam and a sparkle in her eyes, and those of us who knew her well knew that sparkle came from a love of life, a bit of a mischievous spirit, and a genuine caring for the family and friends she held so dear.
Marian is survived by her daughter Lynda Alford of Tulsa, her niece Libby Bernhard of Austin, TX, her nephews Richard Persons of Berthoud, CO and Robert Persons of Flagstaff, AZ and a number of great nieces and nephews, and their families from around the country. Marian was preceded in death by her son John Bowen, her husband Carl Bowen, her brother Alfred E. Persons, and her parents Charles A. and Edna M. Persons.
A Funeral Service for Marian will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, Oct 28, 2017 at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, 4250 West Houston Street, Broken Arrow, OK 74102. Her ashes will be spread in the St. Patrick's Memorial Garden immediately following the funeral rites where she will then be re-united with her beloved husband Carl for eternity.
Lynda and the family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be sent to St. Patrick's Building Fund at the above address.
The family of Marian Bowen would also like to thank the devoted caregivers at The Cottage, the Seasons Hospice personnel, and most especially Ms. Angie Belton for all their loving care given to Marian over her last days on this earth. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233 share memories at
