Starts at 1:00 pm (Central time)
Bedford resident Edwin Dee Fisher, 86, died on April 5, 2026. He was born in Center Point, Iowa, on October 4, 1939, to Delmer Julian Fisher and Olive Louise Wagner. Ed grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa, where he had a paper route for many years and graduated from Marshalltown High School before joining the Navy. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962. During the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962, he was stationed aboard the USS Vesole, a destroyer, in the Caribbean Sea as part of the quarantine of Cuba.
On June 19, 1965, he married Carol Lee Reed in Ames, Iowa, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned more than six decades. In 1967, Ed earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University and went on to have a successful engineering career.
Carol and Ed built a life together in several communities, living in St. Anthony Village, Minnesota, for five years, Tulsa, Oklahoma, for 23 years, and ultimately settling in Bedford, Texas, where they spent 35 years. Ed was the president of Fisher Engineering Services before his retirement and was respected for his professionalism and dedication to his work. In addition to projects throughout the US, Ed's work took him to Iran, Indonesia/Singapore, and Argentina.
In retirement, Ed loved traveling throughout North America in their cab-over camper with Carol. This included many trips to Alaska and Canada, where they visited many provincial and national parks, creating lasting memories with their family along the way. He also loved books, especially those by James A. Michener, Tom Clancy, and Larry McMcMurtry. Listening to Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennett, Jackie Gleason's Orchestra, and other big bands was a favorite pastime.
Ed will be remembered for his strong work ethic, steady presence, and deep commitment to his family. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and valued time spent together above all else.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmer Julian Fisher and Olive Louise Wagner, and his sister, Glenda Cooper. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his son, Mark, and wife Elizabeth of Dallas, Texas; his son, Adam, and wife Corrine of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; and ten cherished grandchildren, Zachary, David, Andrew, Samuel, Coleridge, Jonah, Aniyah, Ariyah, Declan, and Winston.
In place of flowers, when you visit a national or state park, think of Ed when you contribute to the Donation Box.
Graveside service will be on April 18 at 1:00 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
