Edwin Julius Stevak, 65, of Tulsa Oklahoma, died Saturday, May 27, 2023 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Visitation will be in the chapel at Moore Funeral Home Southlawn on Saturday, June 3 from 10am to 12pm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 1, at 10am, also at the Moore Funeral Home Southlawn Chapel.
Edwin Julius Stevak was born on June 8, 1957 in Chicago, IL to Julius Norman and Mary Angela (Basso) Stevak. As a child, he moved around often in the midwest, due to his father's occupation before the family finally settled in what would be his forever home, Tulsa, OK. He graduated in 1975 from Tulsa Memorial High School and the University of Tulsa in 1979. After graduating with a degree in accounting, he went to work for Cities Service in Tulsa. In 1984, his department was purchased by Occidental Petroleum Company and Ed proudly finished his 40 year career with Oxy as a senior tax manager.
In 1980, while at Cities Service, Ed met fellow employee, Jerri (JJ) Johnston. They married October 2, 1982 and had one son, Taylor Edwin Stevak, on September 17, 1989.
In his free time, Ed loved to support local sports teams, including the Tulsa Oiler Hockey teams, University of Tulsa and Oklahoma State University football and basketball teams. He also was an avid gardener who had a green thumb and could rescue plants and flowers that no one else could. He loved jazz and alternative rock music, had a wicked sense of humor, power napped like a champ, was a craft beer aficionado, and was a master grillmeister.
He is survived by his wife of the home, JJ, son Taylor Stevak and father, Julius Stevak, both of Tulsa, his sister Annette Moore (Steve) of Alexandria, LA, sister Mary Burgess (Jay) of Broken Arrow, OK, brother, Michael Stevak (Bee Keng) of Lambertville, NJ, and brother-in-law, Craige Johnston (Sara) of Stillwater, OK. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Ashley Johnston Swart of Elgin, OK, Christy Moore Sherlin (Conan) of Thibodaux, LA, Daniel Moore (Erin) of Alexandria, LA, Suzie Moore Schmitt (Joe) of Norwalk, OH, Colin Johnston (Kayla) of Broken Arrow, OK, Elizabeth Burgess of Tulsa, Victoria Burgess (Hannah) of Portland, OR, and Hayley Burgess of St. Louis and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, if you are inclined to make an honorarium, please make a donation to the charity of your choice, or raise a toast to Ed at a BBQ with your family and friends as he loved to do.
Memorial Service will be 10AM, Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 East 51st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
