Edwina Alene Mears, age 95, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was born on December 4, 1930, in Chickalah, Arkansas, to W.O. and Sylvia Bates.
Edwina was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Buddy Bates and Nan Gross; her beloved husband, Donald Mears; her son, Randy Mears; and her grandson, Andrew Haliburton.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Russell Haliburton; her granddaughters, Heather Calkins, Brooke & Mathew Blase, and Alexa & Wei Li; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
The daughter of a sharecropper and a homemaker, Edwina grew up with a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family. She attended the Draughon's School of Business in Little Rock, Arkansas, and later devoted herself to raising her children and creating a loving home. Edwina was an active leader in both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, investing time, patience, and creativity into the lives of young people.
For nearly fifty years, Edwina was a faithful member of Southwood Baptist Church, where she found joy, purpose, and lifelong friendships. She loved arts and crafts, especially crocheting, and she often shared her handmade creations with those she loved. Her gentle spirit, steady faith, and warm smile touched everyone who knew her.
Viewing will take place on Sunday, December 14th, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Moore Southlawn, 9350 E. 51st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74145.
Funeral services honoring Edwina's life will be held at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, on Monday, December 15th, at 2:00 p.m.
Interment will follow the service at Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured, the friendships she fostered, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed.
